What Youll Do as a Building Material Sales Representative

• Create material lists from customer-provided building plans and specifications.
• Complete accurate material takeoffs for residential and light commercial building projects.
• Prepare quotes and estimates based on project requirements pricing product availability and lead times.
• Assist customers in person by phone and by email with product selection quantities and building material needs.
• Revise takeoffs and quotes as project details change and follow up on outstanding quotes and potential sales.
• Maintain accurate customer quote and order information throughout the sales process.
• Coordinate with suppliers purchasing production and dispatch as needed to keep customer projects moving.
• Stay current on Cumberland Supplys products pricing and building material options so you can provide knowledgeable customer service.

Our Ideal Building Material Sales Representative

• Experienced: 3 years of experience in building materials construction lumber post-frame construction or a related industry.
• Construction-Knowledgeable: Understand construction materials and terminology confidently read basic building plans and be willing to learn new products and construction methods.
• Numbers-Savvy: Use strong math and measurement skills to prepare accurate material takeoffs estimates and quantities while balancing detailed estimating work with responsive customer service.
• Practical Problem-Solver: Work through project details and changing customer needs to identify practical building material solutions.
• Tech-Comfortable: Comfortable using computers and learning estimating and quoting software; experience with dealer product portals such as Paradigm SmartBuild or STAX is a plus.
• Sales-Minded: Communicate effectively with customers in person by phone and by email with the motivation to turn customer inquiries and estimates into sales.
• Values-Aligned: Bring a dependable service-minded approach that supports our commitment to teamwork integrity and honoring God.
