Building Engineer

Reporting to the Superintendent of Parks and Maintenance the Building Engineer will oversee the Assistant Building Engineer and Building Technician while taking a hands-on role in maintaining and repairing HVAC plumbing electrical mechanical and aquatic systems.

This position offers an exciting mix of technical work leadership preventive maintenance project planning contractor coordination and facility operationsincluding overseeing annual Swim Central maintenance closures supporting seasonal operations at Splash Island and ensuring aquatic systems meet applicable health and safety standards. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

• Maintain/repair all HVAC equipment in Park District buildings.
• Complete HVAC monthly preventive maintenance for all Park District facilities.
• Inspect repair and maintain facilities for the Park District.
• Directly supervise the Building Technician and Assistant Building Engineer.
• Plan and prepare payroll and performance appraisals for the Building Technician and Assistant Building Engineer.

• Inspect repair and maintain mechanical HVAC plumbing electrical aquatic systems and any other equipment or systems and related components at assigned Park District facilities and recommend in-house or contracted repairs as necessary.
• Manage the maintenance and schedule of contractors during the Swim Central annual closure.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of maintenance activities and monitor all preventive maintenance contracts.

• Maintain accurate and complete records of preventive maintenance activities.
• Oversee the proper operation water tests chemical safety and mechanical systems at Swim Central and Splash Island in accordance with the State of Illinois and DuPage County Health Department Pool and Spa Codes.
• Provide quarterly training to Building Technician Assistant Building Engineer and Tennis Center Building Engineer to increase overall Park District maintenance knowledge. Document training throughout the year.
• Assist with annual maintenance planning and project prioritization.
• Assist the Parks Department with seasonal preparations and annual maintenance of restrooms and concession stand on the North Campus.
• Timely opening and closing Splash Island seasonally as well as maintaining proper operations.
• Manage organize and care for the departments tools and equipment.

• Maintain accurate and complete records of maintenance activities and inspections.

• Assist with preparing and monitoring the annual budget for the Aquatics and Facilities Department.
• Ability to read and understand construction plans and electrical schematics.
• Demonstrate exceptional internal and external customer service skills in all communication.

• Support the Districts safety initiative including adhering to policies and procedures safely performing your job attending required training seeking additional training as needed training and coaching your staff promptly investigating and reporting accidents/incidents and proactively addressing hazards in the workplace.

HOURS:

The Building Engineer is a full-time position working a minimum of 40 hours per week. Part of this positions duties include opening the Family Recreation Center three days per week. The opening shift hours are from 5:00 am 1:30 pm. Other regularly scheduled workday hours are from 6:30 am 3:00 pm. These shifts include a 30-minute unpaid meal break. Work schedules may be adjusted as necessary to accommodate facility operations programs special events and other operational Building Engineer is on call 24 hours a day for emergencies.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

• Minimum 4 years of work experience with a trade: HVAC electrical and plumbing etc.
• Must be familiar with aquatic systems and certified as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or can obtain certification within one year.
• Bachelors degree in Parks and Recreation trade school or related field is preferred
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Valid Illinois Drivers License
• First Aid CPR and AED Confined Space Respirator and Scissor Lift training certification is required within six months from the date of hire. Training will be provided by the Park District.
