Job Summary

As a Bridge Engineering Intern at KPFF you will work alongside experienced bridge engineers on transportation infrastructure projects. You will gain hands-on experience with bridge analysis design plan development and construction support while learning how technical decisions respond to site conditions agency requirements constructability and project goals.

Throughout the internship you will:

  • Assist with analysis and design of bridge components and related transportation structures under the guidance of licensed professional engineers.
  • Prepare and check engineering calculations design sketches quantities and supporting documentation.
  • Support development of plans details and technical deliverables using structural analysis and computer-aided design software.
  • Coordinate with engineers technicians and other disciplines to understand project constraints and develop practical solutions.
  • Contribute to team discussions quality-control reviews and problem-solving efforts.
  • Participate in our Weekly Intern Training Series and other mentoring opportunities.

Qualifications :

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters degree program in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Completed coursework in statics and mechanics of materials by the start of the internship.
  • Completed at least two design courses (e.g. concrete steel wood or masonry) by the start of the internship.
  • Basic understanding of structural engineering fundamentals including free-body diagrams and shear axial and moment diagrams.
  • Interest in bridge engineering transportation structures and infrastructure design.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate coursework.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical organizational and problem-solving abilities with the ability to work collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Masters degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Previous internship research design-team or field experience related to civil or structural engineering.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in bridge or transportation structural engineering.

Additional Information :

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Interns primarily work in a standard office setting with occasional travel to bridge and project sites.
  • Field visits may involve walking standing kneeling climbing slopes or embankments and navigating uneven terrain.
  • Must comply with all safety requirements in the office and on project sites.

Internship Duration

  • The internship typically runs 10-12 weeks during the summer with full-time hours.
  • Exact start and end dates may vary depending on the students availability.
