The DOT&PF Bridge Section provides design services for new bridge and bridge rehabilitation construction projects as well as a broad range of services associated with the existing inventory of the States 1000 public highway bridges. The position is located in the Alaska DOT&PF Headquarters building in Juneau. Travel opportunities throughout the State are available as part of this position.

• Structural Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and methods related to the design and analysis of complex structures using a variety of materials. Structures may include aerospace systems or structures and other determinate or indeterminate systems.
• Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
• Written Communication: Writes in a clear concise organized and convincing manner for the intended audience.
• Design: Knowledge of conceptualizing developing producing understanding and using plans models blueprints and maps including the use of tools and instruments to produce precision technical drawings working prototypes components or systems.

• State of Alaska Board of Registration for Architects Engineers and Land Surveyors Registration as a Professional Civil or Structural Engineer.
• Physical ability to descend / ascend bridge embankments and riverbanks.

Engineer / Architect 1
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1

Registration as a professional engineer (PE) or professional architect and two years of professional engineering or architectural experience as an Engineer 1 Architectural Assistant 3 or higher with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineer/Architect 1 or Technical Engineer 1 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at the Engineer/ Architect 1 Level promotion to the Technical Engineer 1 Level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
