Job Summary:
As the Operator I/II/III you will operate heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently for construction and excavation projects while protecting underground utilities and other infrastructure. You will prepare and operate equipment interpret plans and specifications identify potential hazards and support a variety of construction activities. Success in this role requires safe equipment operation strong awareness of active utilities equipment maintenance and adherence to company and industry safety standards.
Key Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):
Operate heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with company policies OSHA requirements and applicable safety standards.
Load unload transport set up and break down heavy equipment and ensure assigned equipment is properly maintained and documented.
Safely operate equipment near active utilities and verify utility locations before beginning work; develop a plan to safely work above below or around utilities and other obstacles.
Operate equipment including asphalt rollers skid steers backhoes mini excavators vacuum trucks bore machines and other heavy construction equipment as qualified.
Perform additional construction activities including conduit placement and proofing potholing shoring rigging structure setting concrete work and asphalt placement.
Communicate with supervisors regarding job requirements site conditions equipment needs and daily work activities.

Required Qualifications:
Education Licensing and Certifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid drivers license.
DOT Medical Card.
OSHA 10 certification.
Required safety and job-specific certifications including applicable First Aid Flagger Competent Person Silica Confined Space and Trench Safety training.
Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain one.
Experience
Minimum 1 year of experience locating underground utilities and operating heavy equipment near active utilities.
Experience operating heavy construction equipment such as skid steers backhoes mini excavators vacuum trucks bore machines and asphalt rollers.
Experience reading and understanding construction plans and specifications.
Basic knowledge of shoring systems and safe shoring methods.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to safely operate heavy construction equipment around underground utilities and other obstacles.
Knowledge of utility locating systems and procedures and ability to identify and avoid marked utilities.
Ability to perform basic computer tasks and complete required job documentation.
Ability to follow OSHA ANSI company safety requirements and established operating procedures.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with supervisors crew members and other project personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience operating Ditch Witch and Vermeer equipment.
OSHA 30 certification.
Cross-training or experience in another field position such as Lineman or Splicer.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift carry push and pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and routinely bend squat climb kneel push pull lift twist and work in awkward positions.
Work performed outdoors and around heavy equipment and machinery in varying and inclement weather conditions.
Ability to maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and moving or stationary persons vehicles and objects to safely coordinate movement.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment including safety boots safety glasses hard hat and other applicable safety gear.
May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends as needed to meet project deadlines.
Operator Level Differentiation:
Operator I
Requires minimal supervision to operate heavy construction equipment.
Possesses and maintains all required licenses certifications and registrations.
Possesses the necessary knowledge skills and abilities to perform essential Operator duties and responsibilities.
Operator II
Requires no supervision to operate heavy construction equipment.
Possesses and maintains all required licenses certifications and registrations.
Demonstrates proven mastery of Operator duties and responsibilities.
Possesses the ability to train Operator I and Laborer employees in essential duties and responsibilities.
Operator III
Requires no supervision to operate heavy construction equipment.
Possesses and maintains all required licenses certifications and registrations.
Demonstrates proven mastery of Operator duties and responsibilities.
Possesses the ability to train Operator I Operator II and Laborer employees in essential duties and responsibilities.
Cross-trained in at least one other field position such as Lineman or Splicer.
Possesses and maintains OSHA 30 certification.
