Job Summary

Description

Position Objective: The Bioinformatics Scientist will provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Cancer Institute Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics within the National Institutes of Health.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide broad-based programming and analytic support for a wide variety of bioinformatic and research projects.
  • Provide reports based on analysis of scientific data.
  • Conduct descriptive statistical analyses regression models sequencing based bioinformatic analyses in breast cancer and chordoma datasets; analyze key breast cancer risk factors genomic features and tumor microenvironment characteristics in relation to tumor subtypes and clinical features
  • Collaborate with scientists to design analyze manage and interpret all types of data.
  • Work with principal investigators to write manuscripts based on analysis conducted
  • Prepare scientific reports and progress reports; assemble data to prepare tables graphs and slides; conduct scientific and program related information searches and report results.
  • Prepare tables and figures from data analyses
  • Perform data processing and data analysis with existing computational and statistical methods.
  • Conduct integrated omics analyses in breast cancer and chordoma studies 1
  • Coordinate databases and generate analyzable datasets in breast cancer studies and chordoma studies 2
  • Analyze spatial proteomics data in breast cancer and chordoma studies 3
  • Participate in research design with investigators to determine the best practices pertaining to the bioinformatics analysis in new and ongoing projects.
  • Coordinate breast cancer and chordoma databases containing clinical epidemiologic histomorphology and genomic data; conduct statistical analysis associating genomic features with patient characteristics
  • research needs.
  • Collaborate with staff to review current and historical procedures for the acquisition quality control and management of data.
  • Conduct literature searches related to ongoing analytic projects
  • Instruct staff in computational analysis of data.
  • Organize phenotype and genomic data from breast cancer and chordoma patients with multi-omics data; conduct statistical and bioinformatics analyses to investigate associations of genomic features with patient characteristics
  • Analyze genome sequencing data from familial and sporadic chordoma to identify rare loss-of-function variants that may relate to chordoma susceptibility
  • Explore software in estimating tumor ecosystem conducting integrated molecular classification investigating spatial heterogeneity in multi-omics studies
  • Collaborate with group members in experiments associated with data collection.
  • Interact with all levels of staff and communicate with outside collaborators in the US and abroad.
  • Attend group meetings; present findings; author publications resulting from projects.
  • Present analysis results at research conferences and meetings.
  • Present new research data in group settings at meetings or seminars.
  • Meet with lab members to present updates.



Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in related discipline
  • Skilled in Python MATLAB and MS Office Suite
  • Experience with data mining and visualization for large-scale NextGen sequencing data (such as WGS data)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with non-technical and technical staff
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
