Job Summary

Odyssey House Louisiana seeking a full-time evening/night shift Behavioral Health Technician.The schedule for this position is Tuesday-Thursday 7pm-7am and Friday4pm-11pm including weekends and holidays as needed.

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) providesdirect supervision of the Outpatient clients in treatment. Behavioral HealthTechnicians work directly with the clients supervising all daily activities.

Responsibilitiesand Duties

It is theduty and responsibility of the Behavioral Health Technician to:

  • ensure a safe environment for clients;
  • exercise therapeutic communicationskills;
  • take steps to de-escalate distressedclients;
  • observe and document client behavior;
  • assist with therapeutic andrecreational activities;
  • monitor clients physical well-being;
  • provide input regarding clientprogress to the interdisciplinary team;
  • oversee the activities of the facilitywhen there is no professional staff on duty;
  • possess adequate orientation andskills to assess situations related to relapse and to provide access toappropriate medical care when needed;
  • function as client advocate;
  • monitor residents to ensure theircompliance with daily schedules and to ensure their safety at all times;
  • receive and pass verbal and writtenfeedback to Clinical Medical and other Transitions staff as requested aboutclient activity and behaviors;
  • monitor visits from children andfamily members and provide documentation as requested by clinical staff and ProgramManager;
  • monitor and observe clients takingmedications as requested by the nursing staff or the Program Manager completeall required documents in the clients charts as instructed and inform ProgramManager and nursing staff of any problems or concerns;
  • complete all Incident Reports prior tothe end of scheduled shift as required by Incident Policy and Procedure;
  • assist with the planning andorganization of therapeutic client activities both on and off the main campus;
  • conduct urine screens as requested andcomplete all required documentation;
  • facilitate and supervise all clientfeedback meetings;
  • facilitate and monitor client phonecalls;
  • facilitate and supervise any communityor in-house 12 step meetings (must be Present);
  • complete client bed checks every hourand as requested by Program Manager and complete required documentation viaemails during night runs;
  • complete facility security rounds andensure all doors and gates are locked and secured when appropriate;
  • submit shift reports to BHT Supervisorthroughout shift via email as requested;
  • contact BHT Supervisor and ProgramManagers in the event of a fire or evacuation of the treatment facility asrequired;
  • perform property searches on all newclients as requested and perform searches on clients returning to the programfrom outside activities (NO CAVITY SEARCH);
  • assist with other program functions asrequested by Program Manager including but not limited to transportation andmonitoring of the front desk;
  • assist with providing client cellphones as needed per shift;
  • pick up clients medication asrequested by the BHT Supervisor;
  • assist with transportation as needed;and
  • perform other duties as required

Qualificationsand Skills

Required


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Drivers License
  • CPI de-escalation training knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills
  • Candidates in recovery must have 2plus years of sobriety
  • 2 years of Behavioral Health Tech inAcute Psych and substance abuse treatment experience

Preferred

  • Bachelors Degree in related field (social work psychologyeducation)
  • 3 plus years of Behavioral Health Techexperience in Acute Psych
  • Knowledge of Narcotics Anonymous and AlcoholicAnonymous principles
