8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (7.5 hours per day)

Job Goal(s):

The primary job of the Auto Program Assistant is to assist the three auto instructors with daily skill demonstration

instruction and assessment - in general support of the auto programs and students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Certification required

Certification:

  • ASE or Michigan Automotive Technician Certification

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of experience in the Auto Industry; previous experience working with high school students is preferred

Skills:

  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work autonomously
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Basic familiarity with industry tools and equipment
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to stay calm in a stressful situation
  • Familiarity with auto shop tools/machines settings and set-up
  • Ability to troubleshoot auto issues based on visual inspection
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on tools/machines
  • Desire to work with both large and small groups of students as a mentor and guide
  • Safety Oriented

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist the lead instructor with lesson plan implementation and classroom activities.
  • Support students in classroom and hands-on learning experiences related to the auto industry.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students needing extra help with academic and technical skills.
  • Help prepare materials and equipment for daily class activities and practical demonstrations.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe and supportive classroom and lab environment.
  • Aid in the supervision of students during clinical practice and fieldwork.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including - record-keeping and classroom management.
  • Valid drivers license required.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren

Board of Education.
