Position Summary

The Athletic Trainer II plays a key role in supporting the health safety and peak performance of SDSU Softball student-athletes while contributing to the broader success of the universitys sports medicine program. Reporting to the Sr. Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Medicine this position provides comprehensive clinical care spanning injury prevention assessment treatment rehabilitation and return-to-play while supporting practices competitions and team travel. The role also contributes to training room operations multidisciplinary care and sports medicine program development bringing advanced clinical judgment to complex student-athlete needs. Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive athletic training services for SDSU Softball including injury and illness prevention evaluation treatment rehabilitation conditioning emergency care and return-to-participation support.
• Coordinate medical coverage for practices competitions and team travel; serve as a first responder; and coordinate emergency care and follow-up when needed.
• Develop implement document and progress individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans using therapeutic modalities manual techniques taping bracing rehabilitation equipment and exercise programs.
• Coordinate physician appointments referrals diagnostic services rehabilitation access and continuity of care for student-athletes.
• Identify and coordinate support for student-athletes with complex health and well-being concerns including mental health concerns disordered eating substance use nutritional risk and other issues affecting safe participation.
• Collaborate with physicians coaches administrators parents when authorized and multidisciplinary professionals regarding student-athlete health restrictions care plans and continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate timely secure and confidential medical records treatment plans progress notes physician orders and insurance-related documentation.
• Coordinate training-room operations and contribute to the development organization and continuous improvement of the sports medicine program.

Position Information

• This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30 2027 with the possibility of reappointment.
• This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
• Standard SDSU work hours are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but will vary based on training and travel schedules.
• The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Department of Athletics utilizing the services of over 150 employees is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently there are 18 sport programs approximately 550 student-athletes and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club Administration Athletic Medicine Business Office Compliance Corporate Sales Development Equipment Event Management/Facilities and Operations Human Resources Information Technology Marketing Media Relations Strength and Conditioning Student-Athlete Academic Support Services Ticket Office and Video.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to bachelors degree in athletic training physical education kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Course work must include completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements. Equivalent to two years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment.

Key Qualifications

• Masters degree in athletic training sports medicine kinesiology or a closely related field preferred.
• Experience as a certified athletic trainer in intercollegiate athletics preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary care for student-athletes with complex health and well-being concerns including disordered eating mental health substance use or nutrition-related risk.
• Experience providing lead work direction mentoring clinical instruction or precepting to athletic training personnel or students.
• Experience coordinating sports medicine operations team travel coverage emergency action planning and electronic medical records in intercollegiate athletics.
• Experience with athletic training electronic health record systems and with inventory budget or insurance processes.
• Proficiency with Biodex SwimEx AlterG or comparable rehabilitation technologies.
• Advanced training or credentials in an athletic training specialty such as functional assessment and rehabilitation manual therapy instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization or therapeutic taping.
• Availability to work flexible hours including evenings weekends and occasional holidays.
• Ability to travel as needed to support athletic events practices competitions and related activities.

Licenses/Certifications Required

• Current certification as an Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification Inc. (BOC) maintained throughout employment.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification at the professional-rescuer or healthcare-provider level from a nationally recognized provider maintained throughout employment.
• Valid California drivers license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Compensation:
Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience in alignment with the departments budget and equity guidelines.

• Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 8 ($5638) for highly qualified candidates.
• CSU Classification Salary Range: $4908- $7150 per month (Step 1 Step 20).
• Future increases including step advancements are subject to contract negotiations.
