The Position
We are seeking an Associate Analytical Chemist to be responsible for conducting chemical and physical laboratory tests to supportR&D initiatives for new materials products formulations and processes for the manufacture of candles and other home fragrance products. This role emphasizes hands-on analytical laboratory expertise practical instrumentation knowledge and supportincluding continuous improvement on existing processes and transfer of new products into manufacturing.
We are located at 8860 Smiths Mill Road New Albany OH.This is an onsite position.
- Design and execute experiments tests and analyses using physical and analytical techniques including NIR ICP-MS and GC-MS. Performs analytical equipment calibration operation maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.
- Reviews and evaluates SDS documentation for incoming fragrance formulas including flash point physical characteristics ingredient composition and concentration ranges to identify potential safety regulatory or manufacturing concerns.
- Uploads and maintains SDS records within the companys cloud-based document management system for company-wide access and compliance.
- Investigate product performance discrepancies to provide corrective action plans and achieve product quality standards.
- Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses. Draft technical reports and prepare graphs or charts to document experimental results.
- Develops and revises documents including SOPs and testing protocols.
- Trains and informs laboratory staff on procedural improvements that enhance product testing.
- Performs other duties when required to support overall laboratory operations. Assist as needed with all lab functions including making samples ensuring they consistently meet the companys high standards for quality.
- Maintain a clean organized laboratory facility with proper care storage of equipment and tools and cleaning including countertops cabinets floors and lab equipment. Maintain Alene standards of performance and comply with safety policies and procedures. mentor employees to work safely for them and those around them.
- Conducts training on selected topics of interest for the department and company.
- Documents analytical activities and results accurately in a timely manner and right first time. Reviews and checks analytical data generated by peers and maintains integrity of data.
- Communicate project status effectively to peers supervisors management and internal and external customers. Proactively notify the supervisor of potential delays or challenges.
- Participates in and represents the department in cross-functional teams and joint projects with customers.
- Ensures all work is performed and documented in accordance with existing company policies procedures GMPs and health and safety requirements.
- The following combinations of education and experience will be considered:
- High school diploma or equivalent with 10 years of related experience in a laboratory environment
- Associates degree or certification program of comparable scope and 5 years of related experience in a laboratory environment
- Bachelors degree in Chemistry and 3 years of related experience in a laboratory environment
- Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience working as an analytical chemist supporting multi-disciplinary research teams and operating maintaining and trouble-shooting laboratory analytical equipment.
- Hands-on experience in infrared spectroscopy
- Knowledgeable in Inductively Couple Plasma (ICP) spectrometry and mass spectrometric methods.
- Knowledgeable in Chromatographic techniques including GC-MS.
- Operation and maintenance of instruments a must.
- Experience documenting data in lab notebook using data analysis software and MS Office application to document evaluate and communicate technical results.
- Must be able to work in a team environment approach to accomplish tasks.
- Must possess the ability to work on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage increased amounts of unsupervised interaction with: Quality Production and/or Suppliers.
- Must possess good written and verbal communication.
- Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision using scientific judgment and professional competency.
- Knowledge of oil waxes and paraffins is desirable.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
