The Assistant Technical Writer supports the Engineering organization by drafting editing and formatting technical documents proposals job descriptions standard operating procedures and other written deliverables. This entry-level role is well suited to a developing writer who wants to build a career in technical and engineering communications working closely with engineering proposals and business operations teams to ensure documents are clear consistent and professionally presented.
Duties
- Drafts edits and proofreads technical documents job descriptions proposals reports and internal communications for clarity grammar and consistency
- Supports the Engineering and Proposals teams with formatting styling and version control of written deliverables
- Maintains and applies document templates and style guides to ensure a consistent voice and format across deliverables
- Assists in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal reference materials
- Coordinates with subject matter experts across engineering disciplines to translate technical content into clear well-organized writing
- Supports layout formatting and light graphic coordination for proposals and presentations
- Proofreads and quality-checks documents prior to distribution or submission
- Brings potential document or process-related issues along with possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party
- Takes personal responsibility for the quality accuracy and professionalism of all written work product
Required Experience and Education
- Bachelors degree in Journalism English or other relevant writing discipline
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word PowerPoint Excel)
- Willingness to work onsite at one of our existing engineering offices preferably Spokane WA; Portland OR; or Boise ID
Competencies & Skills
- Strong writing editing and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail
- Any relevant publications or published writing samples are a plus
- Prior experience in a technical engineering or corporate writing environment
- Familiarity with AP style or other formal technical writing standards
