Job Summary

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at High Point University supports the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in planning implementing and overseeing strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes and athletic teams. This role involves instructing proper training techniques coordinating with coaches and athletic training staff and ensuring a safe and effective training environment. The Assistant Coach contributes to the development performance and well-being of student-athletes while upholding NCAA and Big South Conference regulations and advancing the Universitys mission of excellence in education and service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Experience and Training

  • Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science or related or SCCC Certification.
  • Masters Degree Preferred.
  • A minimum of three years experience in professional or Division I collegiate strength and conditioning.
  • Certified in strength and conditioning and/or weightlifting by an accredited organization.

Knowledge Skills Ability

  • A willingness to learn grow and hold athletes accountable to the standards of strong character and integrity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all sport programs and the training principals to support each.
  • Ability to design sport-specific speed quickness and agility workouts.
  • Ability to relate to and work with student-athletes coaches faculty and the external community. Heavy lifting required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Primary sport assignments include Womens Basketball and Baseball.
  • On field instruction of Speed Conditioning Plyometric Proprioception and Sport Specific athletic of the student-athlete and integration of speed development to the strength development program as well as instruction and organization of all team and/or general sessions. Some modalities would include but are not limited to acceleration change of direction top-end speed agility plyometric development flexibility vertical jump training and energy system conditioning.
  • Accountability and documentation of athletes would include monitoring documenting tracking and reporting strength speed power and explosion metrics to all student athletes and individual would help create a standard measurement and documentation process for all student-athletes to explain current athletic performance and set goals for ongoing improvement.
  • Interaction with athletic training staff in development of rehab protocols for injured student-athletes as well as development of alternative training methods for injured/rehabilitating student-athletes and those limited in participation.
  • Maintains an open line of communication with the other members of the strength staff sport coaches and student-athletes.
  • Be available to meet prospective student athletes when requested by sport coaches.
  • Responsible with the upkeep and maintenance of the weight room.
  • Responsible for strength and conditioning programs which elicit safe and correct execution of exercise techniques.
  • Assistance instruction and monitoring of weight room activity during times conducive to student-athletes and strength and conditioning staff.

DECISION-MAKING RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Program development decisions judgment on student-athlete performance and strength and conditioning development.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the upkeep and maintenance of a facility.
  • Assists with the internship program.
  • Organizes and schedule demonstrations with local and national vendors.
  • Assists with Fuel Zone responsibilities.
