Position Summary:

The Assistant Program Advisor Trainee Leadership (APAT) is a trainee level appointment working under the lead work direction of the Leadership Program Coordinator and with close supervision of the AVP/Sr Director. Duringthe trainee period which is not to exceed 12 months the APAT is expected to develop and demonstrate the knowledge skills and abilities to function under general supervision at the SSP IB working level.
The incumbent assists through clearly defined efforts to deliver integrated support services and programming aimed atimproving students academic success leadership professional development retention and enrichment of the overallstudent experience. The APAT contributes to the development and execution of intentional student involvement andengagement programs activities and events and will also advise student-led clubs and organizations.

FLSA: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range:$4150 per month (Anticipated hiring rate is at the minimum of the classification salary range)

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm / Summer HoursMonday - Friday 7:30am to 4pmwith occasional weekend and evening hours dependent on department need.

Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; research and observation techniques forthe purpose of recording classifying and interpreting factual information; and the techniques and methods ofinterviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically draw valid conclusions and make appropriaterecommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings conferences and interviews; clearly express ideasand recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative workingrelationships with students staff and faculty.
Experience:
None required.
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences public or businessadministration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfullyapplied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-yearbasis.

RequiredQualifications:

  1. Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior and the ability to apply that knowledge when supporting student leaders student organizations and students with differing needs experiences and perspectives.

  2. Working knowledge of research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording classifying and interpreting factual information.

  3. Working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing and advising to understand student needs clarify concerns provide accurate information and help students identify appropriate options and next steps.

  4. Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically draw valid conclusions and make appropriate program improvements for student programs workshops events and leadership-development initiatives.

  5. Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings conferences and interviews.

  6. Ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations orally to write clear and concise reports and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students staff and faculty.

  7. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty students staff and members of the community.

PreferredQualifications:

  1. Experience supporting advising or working with student-led clubs organizations leadership programs or campus engagement initiatives in a college or university environment.

  2. Experience coordinating programs workshops events or projects involving multiple participants deadlines and campus or community partners.

  3. Experience working collaboratively with colleagues and constituents from diverse backgrounds in a dynamic service-oriented environment.

  4. Willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends with advanced notice.
