Assistant Professor of Dance

The Department of Dance and Movement Studies at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1 2027. We seek candidates to teach technique and history/theory courses in one or more of the following genres: Jazz Hip Hop and Latin dance as well as courses to support the Dance curriculum. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom creativity and intellectual curiosity. The creative process is at the core of Hamiltons Dance and Movement Studies program which focuses equally on performance and scholarship. Theory-based courses which cover a spectrum of disciplines and styles explore the human body from physiological psychological anthropological historical and philosophical points of view. Faculty emphasize ideas imagination problem-solving spontaneity discipline cooperation and commitment. Students enjoy ample opportunities to work alongside our instructors and guest choreographers and independently on directing choreographing performing and producing.

Candidates with ABD will be considered although candidates with a MFA Ph.D. or equivalent degree are preferred. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $94500 to $100360.
