Assistant Professor of Art (Time-based Media)

The Art Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1 2027. We seek candidates with an expertise in time-based media as an artistic practice and who integrate analog and emergent technologies in their practice and curricula. The candidate will be expected to teach video and animation at both the introductory and advanced level and contribute to shared departmental courses including our junior and senior level curricula and to the Colleges interdisciplinary programs in Digital Arts and Cinema Media Studies. Preference will be given to candidates that can also teach photography at the introductory level. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom creativity and intellectual curiosity. The Art department at Hamilton College is a vibrant and robust department of six full-time faculty serving 15-20 concentrators per year as well as hundreds of non-major students each year. We are fortunate to teach in a state-of-the-art building that was completed in 2014 and which supports both analog practices as well as emerging technologies across 2D 3D and time-based media offerings. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $94500 to $100360.
