Position Purpose

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in directing all activities of the Meat Department to achieve sales profit customer service and operational goals. This position assists with employee supervision merchandising inventory management food safety compliance and maintaining a clean organized and customer-focused department.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Assist in overseeing daily Meat Department operations.
  • Ensure proper stocking rotation and presentation of meat and seafood products.
  • Maintain department conditions that support food safety quality and freshness standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink.
  • Ensure proper pricing signage and promotional execution.
Customer Service
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and promote a positive shopping experience.
  • Assist customers with product selection preparation recommendations and special orders.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Promote department products and sales programs.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Support hiring training coaching and development of department employees.
  • Assist with scheduling to ensure adequate staffing and productivity.
  • Provide direction and support to team members during daily operations.
  • Promote a safe respectful and inclusive work environment.
  • Help ensure employees follow company policies and procedures.
Food Safety and Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with all food safety sanitation and workplace safety requirements.
  • Ensure proper handling storage labeling and rotation of products.
  • Conduct routine department inspections and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Support execution of company audits and regulatory inspections.
Financial Performance
  • Assist in achieving sales gross profit labor and shrink goals.
  • Monitor product movement and make recommendations to improve performance.
  • Support expense control initiatives and productivity improvement efforts.
  • Help manage inventory accuracy and reduce waste.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous Meat Department experience required.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of meat cutting merchandising inventory control and food safety practices.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand walk bend lift and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.
  • Ability to use department equipment safely including knives cutters grinders and wrapping equipment.
Work Environment
  • Retail grocery Meat Department environment.
  • Frequent exposure to cold temperatures moisture and food preparation equipment.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings weekends and holidays as business needs require.
