Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Programs and Student Leadership works directly with the Director to identify and help manage excellent community partner opportunities and to help hire manage train and provide professional development for BSLCE student leaders.

Essential Duties

  • Administer service-learning programs such as tutoring computer learning ELL/ESOL and mentoring for social change.

  • Assist with the design and coordination of BSLCE marketing of events and some of our unique programs such as BUIILD (raising awareness and money for sustainable international development work) the annual Fair Trade Fair regular civic speakers and events the Nonprofit Minor and Nonprofit Internship Program etc.

  • Work with the Director team to assist with recruitment efforts of new student leaders faculty and community partners.

  • Collaborate with Director to hire and evaluate performance for a dossier of work study and non-work study student workers while promoting intentional and high-level student development and leadership.

  • Help to create and run some of the professional development trainings for the 150 student Program Managers who run these programs. These training programs aim to increase the professional development skills and leadership of our students toward developing and overseeing more effective community partner programs.

  • Serve as main point of contact for half of the BSLCEs service-learning community partner organizations including schools and nonprofits.

  • Help to oversee the BSLCEs scholarship students on their unique civic leadership projects.

  • Assist the Director the Senior Associate Director of Academic Programs and the Associate Director of Civic Initiatives in working with student leaders to develop presentations workshops and professional development trainings for internal and external audiences.

  • Help recruit and train BSLCE student committee members.

  • Represent BSLCE at local conferences workshops and trainings where applicable.

  • Supervise 70 BSLCE student workers in the roles of Committee Members Scholarship Students and Program Managers.

  • Hire and evaluate performance for work study and non-work study student workers while promoting intentional and high-level student development and leadership.

  • As part of evaluation process inform Director of any significant breaches of the Program Manager contract or other reasons for potential disciplinary action and share any relevant information that would equip the Director to carry out the disciplinary process for Program Managers.

Other Duties

  • Support at all turns whether with Open House and Accepted Students Day; BSLCEs Committee Retreat and Program Manager Training each semester.

  • Administer CORI check process at the beginning of each semester as we ready hundreds of students for their community partner work.

  • Visioning of the Centers future.

  • Co-creating the Centers complex calendar.

  • Contributing key items and reports at weekly Staff Meetings; etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree and at least 3 years of professional relevant experience working with community agencies and student populations.

  • Detail-oriented excellent communication skills ability to design training sessions for students involved in service-learning and to support students as they create civic DEIJ (Diversity Equity Inclusion and Social Justice) projects and events.

  • Strong understanding of civic work in an academic context including a good understanding of various academic disciplines.

  • Strong public presentation skills.

  • Must be able to deal effectively with multiple constituencies in both on- and off-campus settings (i.e. students faculty administration community organizations staff and clientele).

  • Must have ability to digest detailed knowledge of needs and interests of community sites in order to negotiate and manage best practice programs.

  • Must be proficient in use of PC-based computer programs including Microsoft Office.

  • Must have some familiarity with program assessment tools and applications.

  • Spanish language skills are a plus.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work in person within a typical office environment with extensive sitting and computer work.

  • Must be available for evening and weekend work (events and retreats). Also must be available to travel occasionally to off-campus sites and community partnered events.
