Assistant Athletics Program Coordinator

Job Summary
- Assists the Athletics Program Coordinator in planning and organizing youth and adult athletic programs focusing on administrative tasks field preparation and event supervision. This position works under moderate supervision for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Essential Duties & Required Qualifications
- Assists the Coordinator as needed with administrative responsibilities including PARD multiple league planning implementing & evaluating program registration leasing LISD facilities preparing reports maintaining fiscal budget ordering equipment and aiding inventory and equipment maintenance for PARD athletic programs.
- Maintain team schedules and coordinate make-up games asassigned.
- Assist with evening and weekend supervision of facilities used for youth and adult sport leagues to include pre-assigned athletic and rental activities.
- Maintains records including but not limited to program and participant surveys accident and incident reports and league rosters; monitors inventory of supplies and reports deficiencies to supervisor for ordering.
- Assists the Coordinator with communicating and directing part-time & volunteer staff as well as coordinating with program participants & parents.
- Serve as a liaison to youth and adult league officials and/or parents concerning sports programming and facilities.
- Facilitates and instructs programs as approved by the Athletics Program Coordinator to meet community needs.
- Assist the Coordinator with leading tryouts coach or team meetings and appreciation dinners if needed.
- Facilitate field lights as back-up for automated scheduling system check locks and facility equipment such as score board and controllers for correct functionality.
- Assists in coordinating city-wide special events including event setup and tear down.
- When necessary ensures consistent interpretation and application of departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains facility cleanliness and is active in presenting a clean and safe environment; responsible for reporting potential and existing safety issues or concerns to supervisor to ensure patron safety.
- Attend to restroom pavilion and trash receptacle cleanliness and restocking while on evening or weekend shift at fields.
- Prepare fields by performing basic maintenance such as raking dragging painting and chalking while on evening or weekend shift at fields.
- Other related tasks as assigned.
- Associates degree in recreation physical education sports management or a closely related field.
- Two years of experience with youth sports facility operation and sporting technology (such as scoreboards).
- Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule for athletic events and special events.
- Texas Drivers License or ability to obtain a Texas drivers license within 90 days per state law. (Approximately 10% driving time in employees personal vehicle.)
- Basic First Aid and CPR/AED Certifications or must obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Bachelors degree (B.A./B.S.) in recreation physical education sports management or closely related field from four-year accredited college or university.
- Three or more years of experience with youth sports and/or related experience.

- Knowledge of basic rules of baseball softball basketball flag football and kickball.

- Ability to effectively communicate with a large number of people with a variety of requests.
- Ability to learn the principles policies and practices of the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate with other employees and the general public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
- Skill in operating assigned equipment safely.
- Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as evenings and weekends.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Skill in using computers and related software applications.

- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City employees the public elected officials and boards and commissions.
- Physical Demands & Additional Information
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit use hands to handle and feel items reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift or move 50 pounds and drag push or pull 75 pounds.
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
