Job Description
Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is an administrative position within the Department of Athletics and Physical Education reporting to the Director of Sports Medicine. This is a full-time benefit-eligible 52-week position requiring weekend holiday early morning and late evening hours.
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will create a safe and healthy environment for student-athletes to perform and achieve at the national level while upholding Vassars mission to foster an inclusive and transformative student experience. As such the position assists the Director of Sports Medicine in administering and advancing a comprehensive Sports Medicine program for Vassars 25 Division III varsity and four varsity club programs (approximately 600 student-athletes).
Responsibilities
Contribute to a positive inclusive and values-driven culture within the Sports Medicine team that creates a safe and healthy environment for Vassar student-athletes to practice and compete
Provide leadership in preventative rehabilitative and medical care for assigned teams with day-to-day responsibilities including but not limited to: coordination and administration of pre-season physical exams and health updates injury and illness evaluations daily medical treatments development and implementation of injury prevention and rehabilitation programs organization of team physician clinics and coordination of off-campus medical appointments. As needed provide additional support to other student-athletes and Vassar athletics sponsored programs.
Implement all Sports Medicine protocols and procedures including concussion protocols emergency action plans for all home venues and the practice and competition coverage model etc.
Maintain collaborative working relationships with appropriate medical personnel for the evaluation treatment and care of injured or ill student-athletes; personnel include off-campus resources such as local physicians physical therapists and other medical specialists as well as on-campus partners in Health Services Counseling Services Sport Performance and the Accessibility and Educational Opportunity Office
Responsible for various sports medicine administrative operations including but not limited to: equipment and supply management verification of insurance coverage and coordination with primary and secondary insurers as needed and maintenance of medical records
Monitor weather conditions to ensure environmental conditions are safe for practices and contests
Shared supervision of 10-15 student workers with sports medicine staff
Assist the Director of Sports Medicine with preceptor guidance for a local ATEP program
Active engagement in department campus and local community service initiatives
Required knowledge skills and abilities
Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training or a health-related field
Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders including student-athletes coaches administrators and healthcare providers
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong interpersonal organizational and communication skills
Experience with electronic medical records and relevant technologies
Knowledge and compliance with NCAA and league rules and regulations
Certification in CPR AED and First Aid
Current NATABOC certification and New York State Licensure/Certificate
A valid and unrestricted drivers license
Successful result of a background check
Preferred knowledge skills and abilities
Masters degree in Athletic Training or a health-related field
Two or more years of athletic training experience at the high school and/or intercollegiate level
Certification in CPR AED and First Aid instructor training or willingness to obtain certification upon hire
Proven ability to promote inclusion and belonging in a sports medicine environment
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Compensation:
The compensation for this position is $63000 - $70000 per year.

The starting salary range represents the Colleges good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
