Title: Aquatic Activities Coordinator

Salary Schedule Range: 32

Hours Per Day: 7

Months per year: 12

Purpose of Position: To coordinate and monitor the use of a high school swimming pool by school community groups athletic leagues or civic organizations and to provide other support as needed.

Reporting: Reports to an assigned supervisor.

Employment Status: Full-time variable or irregular hours depending on assignment; weekend or evening hours required. (FLSA Non-exempt)

Location: San Marcos High School

Essential Functions:

Coordinate pool use by school community groups athletic leagues or civic organizations.

Assist site administrators with scheduling and civic use.

Prepare pool area for a variety of athletic competitions and physical education activities.

Maintain the pool deck and all pool-related safety equipment in an orderly condition and perform periodic safety checks of rails diving boards and other equipment.

Perform light and routine custodial duties to maintain pool or locker areas in safe clean and hygienic condition.

Serve as liaison between the school and community groups.

Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment.

Explain pool rules regulations and safety policies to community groups and other pool users; act as a lifeguard if properly trained and certified.

Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.

Other Functions:

Perform related duties in the Athletic Department as assigned.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Outside work with some exposure to weather conditions.

Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read documents instructions labels and other printed material; dexterity of hands and fingers to set up equipment; sitting or standing for extended periods of time bending or stooping reaching above the shoulders to retrieve or store materials; ability to access heights using a step-ladder; lifting up to 50lbs may also be required.

Potential hazards include slippery surfaces and exposure to pool chemicals.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of the principles and techniques of operating a public facility.

Knowledge of equipment used in aquatic activities such as timing systems and starting blocks.

Ability to plan and schedule events athletic competitions or recreational activities.

Ability to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing.

Ability to work independently under general supervision.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.

Ability to meet schedules and timelines.

Work collaboratively with others including student athletes and helpers.

Education Training and Experience:

Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and a minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in management of an aquatic or recreational facility.

Additional Requirements:

Valid First Aid/CPR certification required; current lifeguard certification preferred.

Passage of pre-employment physical examination.
