Summary
CHS Southwest Grain has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Applicator Trainee with the flexibility to be based out of Dickinson ND or Elgin ND. In this hands-on role youll support local growers through fertilizer and crop protection applications operate trucks and agricultural equipment and assist with agronomy and warehouse operations throughout the year. We provide the opportunity for you to obtain your CDL applicator licenses and other industry certifications while building a rewarding career in agriculture. Responsibilities
  • Apply fertilizer and crop protection products utilizing application equipment to support customer agronomic needs.
  • Operate and maintain application equipment tender trucks tankers and hopper-bottom trailers in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Pick up deliver load and unload agronomy products including fertilizer and crop protection products.
  • Work with customers in a courteous and professional manner while providing exceptional service.
  • Assist with chemical warehouse operations including inventory management product handling and facility organization.
  • Support fertilizer operations including loading and unloading railcars and maintaining product quality standards.
  • Assist with anhydrous ammonia operations while adhering to all safety requirements and maintain and perform basic repairs on equipment vehicles and facility assets.
  • Ensure compliance with all local state and federal regulations company policies and safety procedures.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily equipment checks and required operational documentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment vehicles warehouse facilities and work areas.
  • Work extended hours during peak application seasons to meet customer needs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned.
  • Training Provided:
    • CDL training and support
    • Crop protection product mixing and handling
    • Operation of application equipment
    • Anhydrous ammonia certification
    • Agronomy product knowledge and safety training
Minimum Qualifications (required)
  • Knowledge of Agriculture Production Operations and/or Agriculture Application
  • Must meet minimum age requirement
  • Ability to read write and communicate in English and understand highway traffic signs and signal
Additional Qualifications
  • Maintain or be able to obtain a CDL and DOT medical card
  • Ability to work additional hours be available for overnight stays and occasional weekends to meet business demands
  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Hazmat Tanker and Air Brake endorsements preferred
  • Agriculture background and customer experience preferred
  • Bulk liquid Pressure trailer or Forklift experience preferred
  • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. If required selected candidates must pass pre-employment screenings which may include a combination of drug criminal motor vehicle check physical requirements and FMCSA Clearinghouse.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs
  • Ability to climb rail cars ladders stairs and bins and into back of trailer
  • Ability to work in dust and adverse weather conditions and temperatures

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and depending upon position may include other earnings such as bonus incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include without limitation experience education training specialized skills and certifications minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
