Application Developer
Data Analytics and Institutional Research

The University of Illinois is accepting applications for an Application Developer in the department of Data Analytics and Institutional Research. The Application Developer will design develop supportmaintain and evolve a portfolio of internally developed systems that enableinstitutional research analytics and reporting. This position hasresponsibility for building scalable maintainable systems to ensure solutionsare sustainable secure and aligned with enterprise standards. This includes workingon assigned software development projects based on limited to detailedtechnical specifications and up to a complex level of difficulty; analyzing newproject requests; creating technical design documentation; and creating testingand implementing efficient software.

Duties & Responsibilities

Create new software applications and provide maintenance or fix defects in existing software applications according to detailed specifications.

Collect information to refine specifications.

Utilize appropriate software development tools and techniques.

Configure and deploy software.

Create detailed documentation to help others adopt and contribute to the maintenance of applications.

Test solutions thoroughly.

Ensure applications adhere to compliance standards (e.g. privacy security) and align with enterprise standards.

Monitor applications performance troubleshoot issues and implement improvements to ensure stability scalability and reliability.

Implement new features and improvements aligned with evolving business and data needs using scalable maintainable architectural approaches.

Participate constructively in meetings with relevant concise and reasoned analysis of topical matters.

Collaborate with developers analysts campus IT partners and other DMI/DAIR staff to align solutions with enterprise architecture and data strategy.

Individually and working with the DMI/DAIR staff set and manage expectations of customers resolve customer satisfaction issues and ensure excellent customer service.

Represent department on university committees as needed.

Understand the applicable processes and procedures of the organization and make recommendations in the continual improvement of those processes and procedures providing for management analysis and recommendations on continuous improvement.

Explore identify and report on useful new technologies that fit within the offices architectural and strategic direction.

Contribute to the long-term evolution of systems through roadmap development emphasizing sustainability usability and performance.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Five (5) years of work experience in ITrelated functions such as hardware/software support programming network design network engineering IT systems integration or closely related field. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT) IT Management Programming IT systems or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year Associates Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months 90 semester hours equals two (2) years Bachelors Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years).

Demonstrated experience with programming language and/or development environment such as Python Java and/or C#.

Demonstrated experience with implementation platforms or related technologies including standard libraries and/or tool chains.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering Information Technology or other relevant field.

Five years of progressively more responsible work in an IT-related profession including software development experience.

Experience developing web applications.

Experience using or knowledge of various shell scripting environments such as bash or PowerShell.

Experience working in or knowledge of Unix/Linux.

Experience using or knowledge of database systems such as MongoDB Oracle PostgreSQL or MySQL.

Experience deploying and supporting software in a cloud environment such as AWS Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure.

Demonstrated experience in gathering stakeholder needs and adjusting to changes.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Understands common data structures and algorithms.

Proficient in at least one programming language

Understands software architectures and deployment platforms.

Knowledge of basic version control terminology concepts and tools such as git subversion or CVS.

Ability in communicating effectively and fostering group ownership of work in a high-performance team environment.

Knowledge of basic concepts from one or more of the following: Mobile development and deployment HTML CSS JavaScript Development with databases and/or message brokers such as RabbitMQ ActiveMQ or similar technologies.

Mobile development and deployment using Dart.

Backend development using Go.

Knowledge of basic networking terminology concepts and protocols.

Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS.

Knowledge of deployment container technologies such as Docker.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The budgeted salary for this position is $85000- $ strive to provide a competitive salary considering factors such as available market data internal equity candidate experience and qualifications collective bargaining agreements and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
