Job Duties

This is a part time hourly wage position and is required to work less than 1500 hours per year.

The Virginia State Anatomical Program established in 1919 is the only program in Virginia authorized to receive donations of human bodies for scientific study. The primary mission of VSAP is to educate health professionals by providing donors for the teaching of anatomy and surgery and medical research to the States medical schools colleges universities and research facilities.

This position will serve as part of the administrative team for the Virginia State Anatomical Program and will provide administrative support in activities of the program. Characteristic duties include office and administrative responsibilities data entry records maintenance filing and providing customer service. This position will be responsible for answering a multi-line phone answering questions pertaining to the Virginia State Anatomical Program to determine acceptance of donors to the program for whole body donation. This work will require discretion interpretation of law policies procedures or processes and frequent interaction with constituents. This position may provide assistance to other work units within the program and may have to handle donors and/or cremated remains.

This is a part time hourly wage position and is required to work less than 1500 hours per year.

Wage employees are not covered by the provisions of the Virginia Personnel Act. Therefore they are not eligible for benefits which are provided to salaried employees such as leave credits holiday pay insurance access to the grievance procedure etc.
Wage employees are paid only for the hours they actually work.
Virginia state law currently requires that agencies not permit wage employees to work in excess of 29 hours per week on average over the course of a year. Wage employees may not work for VDH beyond 1500 hours during the period of May 1 April 30 of the following year (the Standard Measurement Period).
Once a wage employee works the maximum of 1500 hours during the Standard Measurement Period the employee may be rehired as a wage employee of VDH only after the next Standard Measurement Period has begun.
Wage employees are eligible to apply for all classified positions for which recruitment has been initiated including those limited to State Employees Only.
If a wage employee becomes employed in a classified position he/she will be eligible to purchase retirement credit for the time worked as a wage employee.
Continuing employment is based on available funding and business need.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Knowledge of general office procedures computer and software technology use of policies & procedures and customer service.
2. Experience working in an office setting with a high-call volume and/or call center environment.
3. Knowledge of anatomy physiology and medical terminology.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills orally and written.
5. Strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and Microsoft Office products (i.e. WORD EXCEL and database entry) and general office equipment (printer/scanner/copier fax calculator).
6. Experience with setting up and maintaining files & manuals.
7. Experience in maintaining confidentiality in a professional setting.
8. Ability to work in an environment with contact with deceased human remains.
9. Professional experience with working independently and dealing with sensitive issues requiring discretion and sound judgement.
10. Ability to lift up to 75lbs and assisting with pushing and pulling up to 200lbs.
11. Experience in following and applying established procedures and applicable policies.
12. Valid drivers license.

Additional Considerations

1. Experience working in a death care industry setting.

3. Knowledge of processing death certificates and utilizing the State EDRS system.
