Position Overview

Lighthouse Lab Services is seeking an experienced Pathology Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of a high-volume pathology laboratory in Racine WI. This position will provide hands-on leadership to Histotechnicians and Laboratory Assistants while ensuring laboratory quality productivity turnaround times and regulatory compliance.

The Pathology Supervisor will be responsible for staff supervision scheduling training and development workflow management inventory oversight quality assurance and process improvement. This is a hands-on leadership position that will also perform technical pathology duties as needed to support daily laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Laboratory Operations

  • Provide daily supervision guidance and communication to Histotechnicians and Laboratory Assistants to optimize laboratory quality productivity turnaround times and teamwork.

  • Monitor daily workflow and staffing levels to ensure production goals and turnaround time expectations are met.

  • Troubleshoot resolve and appropriately escalate specimen laboratory process equipment and personnel issues.

  • Ensure adequate inventory of supplies is maintained to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.

  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of laboratory production areas equipment and materials.

  • Lead regular team meetings ensuring effective use of time clear communication and appropriate follow-up.

  • Report regularly to laboratory management and senior leadership regarding team performance attendance staffing needs and operational concerns.

Scheduling & Performance Management

  • Develop and maintain staff schedules to ensure appropriate daily laboratory coverage.

  • Review and manage PTO requests while maintaining adequate staffing levels.

  • Review and approve timesheets for biweekly payroll processing.

  • Lead 90-day and annual performance reviews providing constructive feedback coaching and development plans.

  • Address performance concerns and implement appropriate improvement plans as needed.

  • Foster a positive professional and collaborative laboratory environment.

Training & Staff Development

  • Facilitate recruitment onboarding and training of new laboratory team members.

  • Develop and maintain training materials and resources as needed.

  • Ensure staff complete required competency-based training and documentation in accordance with CLIA requirements.

  • Provide ongoing coaching training and development to support employee performance and laboratory productivity.

  • Identify opportunities for staff growth and professional development.

Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure laboratory staff and operations remain compliant with applicable CLIA HIPAA OSHA and other regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor adherence to laboratory policies procedures and SOPs.

  • Identify and appropriately escalate compliance quality or safety concerns.

  • Support quality improvement initiatives and corrective actions as needed.

Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with laboratory managers and senior leadership to identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency productivity quality and turnaround times.

  • Participate in the implementation of process improvements and operational initiatives.

  • Participate in monthly and quarterly leadership meetings.

  • Provide input regarding staffing workflow equipment and other operational needs.

Pathology Laboratory Responsibilities

  • Accession and gross tissue specimens including measuring inking cutting and data entry.

  • Process and embed tissue specimens using established laboratory procedures.

  • Section tissue specimens using a microtome and mount sections onto slides for staining.

  • Perform routine H&E staining special stains and immunohistochemistry as requested.

  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment according to established procedures.

  • Change reagents and monitor equipment temperatures as required.

  • Perform other technical pathology laboratory duties as needed to support workflow and turnaround times.

Education & Experience

  • Associates degree in a science-related field required; Bachelors degree in a science-related field preferred.

  • Successful completion of a histology training program required.

  • ASCP certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 year of related laboratory experience required.

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of histology and pathology laboratory procedures.

  • Excellent communication organizational leadership and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced high-volume laboratory environment.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Schedule: Full-time 40 hours/week MondayFriday 10:00 AM6:30 PM (Mid-Day Shift)

  • 70-90k

  • Sign-On Bonus: $5000
