Adjunct Instructor EMT Program

Quinsigamond Community College (QCC) is a premier learning community recognized for teaching and learning excellence relevant and responsive programming student success and community outreach and impact. The College serves over 9500 full- and part-time day and evening students each year. It offers 112 associate degrees and certificates in Business Hospitality Management Engineering Information Technology Education Healthcare Human Services Criminal Justice Liberal Arts Mathematics Biotechnology Automotive Technology and General Studies. The College also offers a wide variety of non-credit courses workshops and corporate trainings through its Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education as well as adult basic education and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes through its Adult Community Learning Center. A number of courses are offered online remote and blended to meet the needs of our diverse students. The College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education Inc. (NECHE) an indication that the institution has been stringently evaluated and found to meet high standards.

General Statement

EMT program instructor must be an Instructor/Coordinator (I/C)) who shall be present at all times and oversee all course activities. The I/Cs shall be currently approved by the Department of Public Health Office of Emergency Medical Services and meet all requirements and meet all additional requirements and updates set forth by the Department of the Public Health Office of Emergency Medical Services.

(A)The duties and responsibilities of an Instructor/Coordinator include but are not limited to the following at the level at which they have been approved by the Department:

(1)Planning developing instructing and coordinating the EMT-Basic and Advanced EMT classes in accordance withthe administrative requirements of the Department;

(2)Managing and ensuring quality of the delivery of EMT-Basic and Advanced EMT classes whether delivered by personal lecture or practical demonstration or by specialty and guest lecturers. Such quality assurance shall include at a minimum a system that incorporates collection of data and adequate documentation to evaluate the EMT-Basic and Advanced EMT classes and assess their effectiveness in achieving educational goals and objectives in accordance with the administrative requirements of the Department ;

(3)Remaining current and knowledgeable with regard to all EMT-Basic and Advanced EMT procedures equipment initial training standards the Statewide Treatment Protocols pertaining to the provision of prehospital care and the role and responsibilities of the EMT-Basic and Advanced EMT; and

(4)Making available to agents of the Department upon request all records relating to the provision of EMS training.

(B)Persons seeking Department approval as an Instructor/Coordinator shall submit an application on a form provided by the Department. The minimum requirements for approval by the Department as an Instructor/Coordinator are as follows:

(1)Current certification as in good standing at or above the level of EMT training to be taught with no record of past enforcement actions of the Department;

(2)Current certification as an Instructor in Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation;

(3)A minimum of three years experience within the last ten years working for an ambulance service as an EMT providing EMS care at or above the level EMT training to be taught;

(4)Successful completion of a Department-approved EMT instructor-training course that includes adult education psychomotor skills and affective learning components or Department-approved substantially equivalent training;

(5)Successful completion of an orientation provided by the Department; and

(6)Competency in teaching and knowledge of the subject matter as demonstrated by a favorable evaluation by the Department.

(C)The Department may issue a certificate of approval as an Instructor/Coordinator at the EMT-Basic or EMT-Basic and Advanced EMT levels to an applicant who has successfully met all requirements applicable to the level to be taught. The term of such approval shall run concurrently with the term of the applicants EMT certificate.

• Massachusetts EMT-Instructor/Coordinator

These positions qualify for MCCC Unit eligibility. The evening hours are from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm Monday through Friday and both lecture and lab courses are offered.

The course involves 75 hours of lecture $6986.25

90 hours of lab sessions $6204.60

The total compensation for teaching the entire course is $13190.85
