Department Summary

The Counseling Program at UNT Dallas prepares a multi-culturally competent counselor and a change agent who promotes wellness in children adults families schools and communities locally and worldwide. The Program offers two CACREP-accredited masters programs: school counseling and mental health counseling. Mentored by dedicated faculty with extensive experience as licensed practitioners and in research our students undergo an authentic experiential and evidence-based training. Graduates of the UNTD Counseling program are dedicated leaders and advocates for diversity in the communities they serve.

Position Overview

UNT Dallas is bridging the gap between education and workforce readiness through our innovative Classroom to Career initiative. This initiative integrates experiential learningsuch as internships service learning and project-based collaborations with industry partnersinto every students academic journey. By emphasizing high-impact practices we prepare students with both disciplinary expertise and the essential skills employers value most: communication adaptability teamwork and leadership. Our graduates dont just earn degrees; they launch purposeful career-ready futures. We seek faculty across all disciplines who are eager to contribute to this transformative campus-wide initiative actively.

UNT Dallas is seeking qualified individuals to establish a robust pool of talented adjunct instructors for our growing counseling programs. Selected candidates will be responsible for teaching masters-level counseling courses across multiple formats including face-to-face hybrid and online instruction using Canvas learning management system. The ideal candidates will demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching excellence and dedication to student success.

Beginning Summer 2027 semester teaching opportunities will be available in Group Counseling Family Counseling Substance Abuse Treatment Professional School Counseling Practicum in School Counseling and Career Counseling. Candidates will be drawn from this talent pool as positions become available. As our programs continue to expand additional teaching opportunities may arise across our counseling curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Counselor Education or a closely related field from a CACREP-accredited university.
  • Maintain active status as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a minimum of two years of experience or hold equivalent licensure in a counseling field.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Academic experience working n a campus with culturally diverse students staff and faculty.
  • Experience in working with industry-standard tools and programming languages for analytics.
  • Strong instructional design and course development skills.
  • Effective use of learning management systems (Canvas Blackboard etc.)
  • Ability to facilitate engaging online hybrid and face-to-face instruction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to mentor diverse student populations.
  • Proficient use of educational technology and digital learning tools.
  • Ability to create inclusive and supportive learning environments.
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to maintain flexible schedule to meet academic demands.
  • Ability to integrate real-world human services experience into classroom instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of school counseling experience including supervision responsibilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of TEA requirements and maintain active memberships in state and national school counseling organizations.
  • Substantial experience in group counseling and family systems approaches along with a proven record of teaching all populations.
  • Experience working in all academic settings demonstrate thorough knowledge of CACREP standards and maintain active memberships in state and national professional organizations.
  • Bilingual skills are highly valued for both positions.
