Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: Adjunct Faculty - Classroom/Didactic Nursing (Medical/Surgical)
DEPARTMENT: School of Health Sciences and Nursing
PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River MA
REPORTS TO: Associate Dean of Nursing
POSITION STATUS: MCCC/DCE unit position non-benefitted. Adjunct Faculty are part-time instructors hired on an as needed basis. Courses may be offered in online hybrid or face-to-face modalities in Attleboro Fall River New Bedford and/or Taunton. Courses may be held during the day in the evening and on weekends (Friday nights Saturdays and Sundays). Please note: Positions will be available pending sufficient enrollment.
STARTING DATE: Academic Year 2026-2027
SALARY: Minimum salary is $1446 per credit hour. Actual salary is commensurate with the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement. DCE Adjuncts and Part-Time Members ()

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Theduties of theAdjunct Faculty - Classroom/Didactic Nursing (Medical/Surgical) include but may not be limited to providing clinical instruction that coordinates with theoretical content and achieves course objectives. Adjunct Faculty will engage in a critical role in the teaching and learning process as a member of the nursing team contributing to student success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Team-teach lecture courses and/or teach courses individually or teach specific topics as requested.
  • Work with the Nursing Associate Dean of Nursing and full-time Nursing faculty team responsible for Medical/Surgical nursing theory.
  • Within the nursing faculty team assume responsibility for instruction in medical surgical nursing theory content within courses.
  • Participate in weekly nursing first or second year team meetings each semester.
  • Recommend suitable instructional material textbooks and library acquisitions by working with the faculty team.
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues to teach online as needed and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate.
  • Engage in student support by providing strategies that empower students to meet their goals.
  • Develop appropriate discipline-related courses and evaluation materials consistent with the framework of the nursing department and in accordance with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (MABORN) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • Post and maintain weekly office hours in accordance with the MCCC contract.
  • Participate as needed and requested in components necessary for program institutional state compliance and ACEN accreditation.
  • Participate in assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to address the colleges goals related to technology academic innovation and equity.
  • Complete required trainings such as but not limited to Title IX FERPA Bloodborne Pathogens and Information Security.
  • Foster student success across the colleges diverse student body through innovative teaching and learning approaches as well as curriculum development.
  • Focus on customer service best practices when working with Bristol community members including faculty staff and students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the MCCC contract.
Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in Nursing;
  • Must possess a current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience as outlined below:
  • For instructors with a Masters degree in Nursing (MSN) or equivalent nursing degree minimum of two (2) years of full-time clinical experience in medical/surgical nursing within the last five (5) years.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 as well as technology and computer applications common in nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated experience working within nursing teams.
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body faculty and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in Nursing or equivalent nursing degree.
  • Experience using High Impact Practices.
  • Experience teaching at a community college preferably in a nursing program.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Canvas.
  • Prior online teaching experience using a Learning Management System.
  • Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.
