Adjunct American Sign Language ( Online Classes Only)

Indian River State College is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Adjunct Instructor to teach courses in American Sign this role you will deliver engaging instruction evaluate student learning provide timely feedback and foster an inclusive learning environment that supports student success. The ideal candidate combines strong subject matter expertise with a passion for teaching excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds. JOB SUMMARY:

• Preparing instructing and grading all class coursework;
• Assigning final grades;
• Communicating with students in a timely manner.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Instructing assigned classes;
• Grading all quizzes tests and written assignments;
• Assigning final grades and delivering grades and grade justification sheets;
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students;
• Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;
• Responding to student inquiries regarding course content grading and other academic concerns;
• Collaborating with department colleagues as necessary;
• Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• A Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in Deaf Education or Communication Disorders OR a Masters degree from an accredited institution with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in one of the following: Deaf Education Communication Disorders American Sign Language Interpreter Training Audiology or another hearing related discipline.
• Proven teaching skills with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way;
• Ability to recognize and to respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds as well as the willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process;
• Understanding of online pedagogy;
• All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Preferred:

• A Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in Deaf Education Communication Disorders American Sign Language Interpreter Training Audiology or another hearing related discipline.
• Two (2) to five (5) years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.
• Experience teaching online courses

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal and/or signed lectures/demonstrations walk bend lift reach up stoop and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines such as copier fax calculator telephone and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
