JOB TITLE Lead Accountant
DEPARTMENT: Accounting
REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager
MAJOR PURPOSE:
The Lead Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records managing a team of accounting professionals and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles excellent leadership skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced role is designed to grow into a Management role within 12 months.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Mentor a team of accounting staff including performance reviews training and development.
- Proactively identify financial risks and opportunities before theyre asked for connect the numbers to the business.
- Lead key accounting operations such as accounts payable accounts receivable general ledger and financial reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end quarter-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements including balance sheets income statements and cash flow statements.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant regulations.
- Manage the annual audit process working closely with external auditors.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the accounting department.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support business decisions.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Stay up-to-date on current accounting regulations and best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE:
- Strong proficiency in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel. Must be comfortable with writing formulas pivot tables conditional formatting etc.
- Sound judgement in ambiguous situations; comfortable making calls without a playbook.
- Proficiency in using accounting or ERP software.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks while working independently.
- A strong attention to detail with the ability to jump from task to task
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate both written visually and verbally with internal staff partners & vendors.
- Ability to work well with all levels within the organization.
- Proven ability to lead or coach a team.
- Excellent analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience with ERP systems implementations preferred.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required; Masters degree or CPA certification(Active or in progress) strongly preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years experience supervising or reviewing the work of others.
- Public accounting experience (Big 4 or national firm) strongly preferred
- Agency Experience preferred but not required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Periods sitting at a desk and monitoring computer (we have ergonomic sit stand desks).
