Job Summary

The Accountant manages analyzes and reports financial information to support accurate decision-making and ensure compliance with applicable laws regulations and policies. The role prepares financial statements monitors budgets reconciles accounts analyzes trends and maintains accurate records of financial transactions. It also helps interpret complex financial data identifies opportunities for process improvement and guides internal stakeholders to support the agencys financial health and operational efficiency.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Prepare examine and analyze accounting records and financial reports to assess compliance with procedural standards
  • Maintain and examine the records of government agencies
  • Advise the appointing authority and/or controller on the status of all accounts
  • Certify the accuracy of the agencys financial records and accounts
  • Review reports for grant reconciliation on grant-funded accounts
  • Direct program staff on accounting matters tied to specific program funding
  • Develop policies and procedures for general accounting and bookkeeping
  • Establish work methods and control measures for accounting and bookkeeping functions
  • Oversee use of the computerized accounting system
  • Assist the controller with budget preparation
Experience
  • 5 years of Accounts Payable experience
  • 5 years of Accounts Receivable experience
  • 5 years reconciling complex discrepancies between accounts
Key Skills
  • Communication and problem solving
  • Extensive knowledge of the theories principles and practices of public accounting
  • Extensive knowledge of automated accounting systems
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws policies and procedures related to accounting and bookkeeping
  • Analyzing and solving complex accounting problems
  • Directing the preparation and interpretation of complex financial statements and reports
  • Developing new accounting procedures and methods or modifying existing ones
