Access and Stewardship (A&S) is central to onXs mission and long-term relevance in the outdoor industry. Our products help people understand access navigate land boundaries and make confident decisions outside. But the future of outdoor recreation is shaped not only by technology but by the stewardship of the places people use and the policies that determine how lands are accessed managed and understood.
onXs A&S program brings these pieces together through charitable giving stewardship projects customer education geospatial storytelling access-informed tools and a growing advocacy and government relations practice on issues that affect access stewardship and federal geospatial data. This work strengthens customer trust reinforces onXs role as a credible voice in the outdoor space and connects our products and expertise to real-world outcomes for public lands and outdoor communities.
onX is seeking an experienced Access & Stewardship Program Director to run and grow the companys A&S program. This person defines program priorities drives annual planning and oversees grants stewardship initiatives customer education access-related geospatial and product integration projects partnerships and policy-informed programs.
The Program Director is both a strategist and a hands-on operator. The core of the job is program strategy prioritization and delivery: translating A&S priorities into clear plans and measurable initiatives that align with onXs business and brand priorities. This person connects policy context stewardship priorities partnerships education and tools into a cohesive program rather than a set of disconnected efforts.
A defining part of this role is guiding how onX expands its political exposure: deliberately in nonpartisan and credibility-building ways and with clear-eyed judgment about risk. This person will surface trade-offs and risks early and provide clear recommendations so senior leadership can make deliberate informed decisions.
Success looks like a focused and credible program sound partner and investment choices measurable progress and executive-ready reporting on impact trade-offs and where to invest next. This role reports to the Director of Brand Programs.
Essential Job Duties & Functions
- Set Strategy & Own the Program
- Set strategic direction for onXs A&S program translating broad goals into sequenced initiatives and making deliberate calls about where to focus and invest.
- Own the annual A&S Plan turning strategy into objectives major initiatives and investment focus across the portfolio.
- Bring policy context public lands realities and stewardship priorities into program strategy in partnership with onXs policy consultant internal experts and leadership.
- Drive adoption of A&S priorities across the vertical businesses building alignment across teams with different incentives perspectives and timelines.
- Direct customer education and engagement and set budget investment direction and final approval for the Adventure Forever Grant Program.
- Coach and develop A&S teammates while staying directly involved in the day-to-day work of the program.
- Direct Government Affairs & Partnerships
- Own and direct onXs government relations and policy consultant relationship setting priorities and turning federal developments into clear decisions and actions.
- Shape onXs policy positions with internal experts and leadership keeping them specific defensible and nonpartisan.
- Identify and manage priority nonprofit and community partners that advance A&S program goals.
- Lead and participate in Washington D.C. engagements with congressional offices agency stakeholders and advocacy partners.
- Measure & Represent the Program
- Define and track success metrics across grants education partnerships stewardship and policy.
- Oversee development of the annual A&S Impact Report.
- Synthesize qualitative and quantitative inputs into executive-ready updates and present clear recommendations risks trade-offs and opportunities to senior leadership.
- Lead internal communication for A&S and partner with PR on external and media representation.
- Bachelors degree in Public Policy Environmental Studies Nonprofit Management Business Communications or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Ten (10) or more years of experience in program management advocacy government relations corporate social responsibility nonprofit partnerships conservation or related fields.
- Direct experience in federal policy advocacy or government relations including interaction with congressional offices federal agencies or policy partners.
- Experience leading complex cross-functional programs or initiatives from strategy through execution with responsibility for priorities partners and measurable outcomes.
- Experience working across nonprofit public-sector government affairs or other mission-driven partnership environments.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders with and without direct authority and put enterprise outcomes ahead of their own lane.
- Strong strategic thinking prioritization and judgment including the ability to surface trade-offs and make recommendations in ambiguous or evolving environments.
- A track record of taking ownership and moving work forward without waiting for perfect clarity or ideal conditions.
- Comfort operating as both strategist and doer setting direction while executing hands-on with a small team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills tailored to senior leaders external partners and cross-functional teams.
- Experience using data reporting and qualitative insight to inform decisions measure progress and improve program outcomes.
- Experience leading or developing a direct report with a leadership style grounded in maturity accountability and low ego.
- A strong curiosity for exploring new technologies including AI

- Ability to travel monthly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location such as a Basecamp.

- Outdoor industry experience or strong familiarity with public lands access stewardship and outdoor recreation issues.

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position applicants can expect to make between $149000 and $186000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based upon experience skills certifications education among other factors as required in the job addition full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and an annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
