Job Summary

What Youll Do:

As our System Planning Engineering Co-op youll support efforts to improve how new energy resources and large electrical loads connect to the grid. Youll collaborate with the team to improve interconnection and transmission service processes develop tools automate workflows and find better ways to manage data.

Your work will support a grid undergoing major change. Across the energy industry older generating resources are retiring new resources are connecting and large new loads are creating additional demand on the transmission system. Youll help a team working to ensure those changes happen while maintaining grid reliability.

Youll gain hands-on experience with:

  • Python scripting and automation
  • Power system modeling tools such as PSSE PowerWorld and TARA
  • CRM Dynamics and data management platforms
  • Generation interconnection and transmission service processes
  • Real-world grid transformation large-load integration and reliability challenges

A Great Day in This Role Means:

Youre collaborating with engineers to improve how resources connect to and use the transmission system. You might be writing a new script to automate a manual process developing a better way to organize and manage data or building a tool that gives engineers greater visibility into an interconnection or transmission service request.

Youll also see how those efforts connect to bigger reliability decisions. The team helps evaluate the retirement of existing power plants the addition of new resources and the transmission needed to reliably serve growing electrical demand. Your work could help engineers determine whether resources remain deliverable as grid conditions change or support interim solutions for resources coming online before planned transmission facilities are complete.

Qualifications at a Glance:

Term: January 13 April 30 2027 Full-time Paid

Location: Carmel IN Housing available for qualified students

Academic Level: Undergraduate (Juniors or Seniors) or Graduate

Degree: Electrical Engineering

Required Technical Skills:

    • Foundational Electrical Engineering coursework
    • Exposure to power systems concepts such as power flow and electrical machines

Preferred Skills:

    • Programming experience with Python
    • Familiarity with tools such as PSSE PowerWorld or TARA
    • Experience working with data or automation projects
