Applied Materials Research and Development department (Varian R&D) and Advanced Project Development Department team are searching for a Co-op to join our team in fall 2026!
Our work involves developing and optimizing process for the next-generation of semiconductor product that is in use by leading companies across the world. Our R&D department is working on state-of-the-art tools which are the backbone of the semiconductor industry. Through novel engineering we are advancing processes such as deposition etch pattern shaping and material modification.
Start date: July 2026 for 6-9 months on-site at our Gloucester MA location
The position will entail the following:
Assist with laboratory plating demonstrations to include: tool preparation processing wafers measuring wafers documentation.
Lead small development projects involving wafer metrology
Support process engineering through procurement shipping and inventory functions
Requirements
Preference for students in their final year in a Doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering Chemical Engineering Chemistry Physics Electrical Engineering or a related field
Student must be in good academic standing at their university with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
Experience/knowledge in semiconductor processing or manufacturing a big plus
Quick learner. Hands-on and not afraid of building and dissembling things. Good communication skills. Well organized with attention to details.
Available to work for 6 - 9 months
Compensation
$47 - 50 per hour

YesThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location hire grade job-related knowledge skills experience and with consideration of internal equity of our current team addition to a comprehensive benefits package candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program as applicable.
For all sales roles the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
