The Technical Infrastructure Architect provides technical architecture leadership and design assurance to support the successful delivery of the Technical Fundamentals workstream within the Local Government Reorganisation programme. The role ensures that safe and legally compliant technical infrastructure is in place for Day 1 enabling secure access to core systems applications and data across the new authorities. Working across multiple councils and with delivery partners the postholder assesses existing infrastructure develops transition and convergence strategies and ensures technical solutions are resilient secure and aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the assessment of existing technical infrastructure identifying dependencies risks and opportunities across multiple organisations.
Design and assure technical infrastructure solutions covering networking identity and access management Microsoft 365 telephony hosting and cyber security.
Develop transition and convergence strategies that support service continuity and operational resilience.
Produce and maintain technical architecture standards design documentation and decision records.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams suppliers and stakeholders throughout the programme lifecycle.
Work collaboratively with technical specialists delivery partners and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are practical secure and deliverable.
Identify assess and manage technical risks dependencies and mitigation plans.
Ensure infrastructure designs align with enterprise architecture principles security standards and organisational policies.
Support the adoption of modern technology practices including agile delivery DevOps and cloud-based infrastructure where appropriate.
Contribute technical expertise to programme planning governance and decision-making.
Requirements
Essential
Significant experience as a Technical Infrastructure Architect within large-scale complex IT environments.
Expert knowledge of infrastructure architecture networking identity and access management Microsoft 365 hosting platforms and cyber security.
Experience designing and delivering infrastructure integration and transition solutions across multiple organisations.
Strong understanding of modern architecture principles cloud technologies APIs microservices and DevOps practices.
Experience managing technical risks business continuity and operational resilience during major transformation programmes.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business outcomes.
Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Degree relevant professional qualification or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable
Experience within local government or the wider public sector.
Knowledge of cross-government procurement frameworks.
Awareness of sustainable technology practices and environmental considerations.
