We are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Asset Protection) to join the Technical Office team on the Thames Water Coppermills Resilience Project.

This is a key technical assurance role that will provide specialist geotechnical and asset protection expertise throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with Design Construction Temporary Works Survey BIM Asset Protection and Client teams you will assess and manage risks associated with construction activities that may affect existing assets utilities structures and operational facilities.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that engineering solutions are technically sound construction risks are effectively managed and the integrity of Thames Waters existing infrastructure is protected throughout project delivery.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

As Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Asset Protection) you will:

  • Provide geotechnical and asset protection advice to project design and construction teams.
  • Review engineering designs technical reports calculations and construction methodologies to ensure they are technically robust and suitable for delivery.
  • Assess the potential impact of construction activities on existing assets structures utilities and operational infrastructure.
  • Support the identification assessment and management of geotechnical and construction-related risks.
  • Develop and review mitigation measures to safeguard existing assets throughout construction.
  • Review temporary works proposals and construction methodologies submitted by contractors and designers.
  • Support monitoring inspection and technical assurance activities during construction.
  • Participate in design reviews risk workshops constructability reviews and technical assurance processes.
  • Liaise with designers contractors consultants client representatives and key project stakeholders.
  • Assist in the resolution of technical issues arising during project delivery.
  • Review and prepare technical reports engineering assessments and project documentation.
  • Support compliance with project specifications industry standards Thames Water requirements and engineering best practice.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of asset protection strategies and risk management plans across the project.

Required Skills and Competencies

Essential Requirements

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A degree in Geotechnical Engineering Civil Engineering Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure utilities water rail or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and construction methods.
  • Experience reviewing engineering designs technical reports calculations and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of excavation works foundations retaining structures temporary works and ground movement risks.
  • Understanding of asset protection principles and construction risk management.
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings engineering reports and geotechnical calculations.
  • Strong analytical communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards Chartership.
  • MSc in Geotechnical Engineering Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on Thames Water projects or other major UK utility infrastructure schemes.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) qualification.
  • SMSTS qualification.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • Experience using PLAXIS WALLAP or equivalent geotechnical analysis software.
  • Experience with instrumentation monitoring systems and interpretation of monitoring data.
  • Thames Water Passport.
  • EUSR National Water Hygiene Card (Blue Card).
