Job Summary
About the Role
A growing and well-established accountancy practice in Helston is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join its team.
This is a hands-on position combining technical accounting taxation client relationship management and team supervision. The successful candidate will play an important role in managing a portfolio of clients while supporting the wider day-to-day operations of the practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage new client onboarding including setup and support with online accounting systems
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and act as a key point of contact
- Respond to client queries and liaise with HMRC where required
- Review client records and follow up on missing or incomplete information
- Prepare Self-Assessment VAT and Corporation Tax returns
- Manage payroll and CIS-related work
- Prepare and finalise accounts for companies partnerships and sole traders
- Produce management accounts and financial reports
- Identify opportunities to provide additional value-added services to clients
- Review client engagements and assess their ongoing commercial viability
- Lead client tax review meetings
- Keep up to date with relevant accounting tax AML and regulatory requirements
- Supervise mentor and review the work of junior team members
- Support the smooth running of office systems processes and workflows
- Assist directors with practice management workload planning and deadlines
- Undertake other accounting and practice-related duties as required
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- A recognised accounting qualification such as ACA ACCA CIMA or equivalent
- At least 5 years experience working within an accountancy practice
- Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation taxation and VAT
- Experience managing client relationships and/or supervising team members
- Good knowledge of accounting software such as Xero QuickBooks Sage or similar
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive professional and client-focused approach
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently

Additional Requirements
- ACA ACCA CIMA or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 5 years accountancy practice experience
- Right to work in the UK
- Ability to reliably commute to Helston Cornwall
- Strong English communication skills
