About the Opportunity

Our client is a growing biopharmaceutical business investing heavily in digitalisation across its R&D function. Theyre looking for a Scientific Data Engineer to join their Data Science team splitting time between hands-on data analysis and the tools that make good data analysis possible in the first place.

This is a confidential search the identity of our client will be shared with shortlisted candidates ahead of interview.

The Role

Youll build and maintain the data models pipelines and dashboards that underpin R&D activity from lab notebook templates through to results processing and statistical analysis while also acting as a go-to technical resource for scientists across the organisation.

Day to day youll:

  • Write well-documented well-tested electronic lab notebook (ELN) templates that follow best practice
  • Build tools that safeguard data integrity throughout the data lifecycle
  • Develop SQL queries and dashboards that make data more accessible across scientific and operational teams
  • Carry out data mining exploration and feature engineering to support proof-of-concept AI/ML statistical mechanistic and hybrid modelling work working closely with data scientists and bench scientists
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and training for tools and software used across R&D
  • Produce clear thorough documentation of your development work
  • Keep your knowledge of modern data analysis practice current particularly as it applies to life sciences R&D
What Were Looking For

Essential:

  • A BS/MS in Data Science Data Analysis Bioprocess Engineering or a related discipline
  • An understanding of bioprocessing or hands-on experience working with bioprocess development data
  • Strong Python and SQL skills

Desirable:

  • Prior industry experience maintaining ELNs within a pharmaceutical setting (internships/placements count)
  • Experience developing software databases or bioprocess models
  • Familiarity with dashboarding tools such as Tableau Spotfire or Power BI
