About the role
As Raw Materials Coordinator you will manage and control technical quality activities for existing raw materials and new proteins introduced into the business. Youll help ensure products meet the required standards for safety legality quality and traceability.
This is an independent hands-on position offering plenty of ownership. Youll work across the office and temperature-controlled cold-store environments partnering with colleagues in Technical Procurement Logistics Supply Chain and Operations as well as suppliers laboratories and cold-storage providers.
Key responsibilities
Incoming materials and quality control
- Inspect incoming containers checking temperatures loading order load condition loading tallies and certificates of analysis.
- Sample protein raw materials at intake in line with an agreed risk-based schedule.
- Accurately record sampling and quality-control results.
- Escalate out-of-specification results to suppliers and ensure corrective actions are properly investigated and closed.
- Conduct spot checks on palletisation labelling and traceability records.
- Check outbound loads before dispatch to ensure products are intact and correct.
- Review microbiological and other testing results against agreed specifications.
- Monitor temperature logger alerts and receipt data taking corrective action when required.
- Complete scheduled equipment calibration checks and maintain accurate records.
- Collect and dispatch samples for customers internal stakeholders and external laboratory testing.
- Complete relevant product and process checks including glaze checks for designated frozen products.
- Maintain excellent hygiene and stock-control standards within the quality-control room.
Complaints returns and non-conforming stock
- Support investigations into customer complaints and non-conformances.
- Work with Technical Procurement and other departments to establish root causes and corrective actions.
- Assess customer returns and rejected products confirming their supply history condition and remaining shelf life.
- Help coordinate decisions regarding the release return rework or disposal of unsuitable goods.
- Provide the information required for customer credits.
- Work with cold-storage partners to quarantine damaged or held stock.
- Maintain the stock-hold log and reconcile held inventory.
- Release stock only when the appropriate authorisation has been received.
- Ring-fence stock required for approved special uses.
Product development and specifications
- Contribute to the development of new products and amendments to existing products.
- Attend initial production trials when required and record the technical outcomes.
- Create maintain and update product specifications and quality-assurance standards with support from the Technical Manager.
- Manage product-development and approval samples.
- Maintain an accurate sample log.
Waste control and reporting
- Record and manage food waste generated through sampling and quality activities.
- Provide accurate information for relevant food-waste and sustainability reporting.
What success looks like
- Incoming quality checks are completed in line with sampling and surveillance schedules.
- Technical records and system files are accurate complete and up to date.
- Out-of-specification results complaints and non-conformances are escalated promptly and closed effectively.
- External laboratory testing is coordinated efficiently and results are reviewed against specification.
- Held damaged written-off and disposed stock is accurately reconciled.
- Temperature calibration sampling traceability and stock-release controls are consistently maintained.

Experience of raw-material intake sampling traceability specification management or non-conforming stock control would be particularly helpful.
An interest in seafood and food quality would also be beneficial as the role involves the routine handling and sampling of seafood products.
