This is a well-established Secondary School in Newcastle upon Tyne serving pupils aged 1118 within a diverse and inclusive community.
The school has a strong commitment to academic achievement attendance behaviour and pupil wellbeing. Its pastoral team works closely with teachers senior leaders and families to ensure pupils receive appropriate support throughout their education.
The school is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer to join its established pastoral team.
The successful candidate will provide targeted pastoral support to pupils who may require additional guidance.
Responsibilities will include:
Supporting individual pupils with pastoral needs.
Building positive relationships with students.
Supporting pupils with attendance concerns.
Assisting pupils experiencing difficulties with engagement.
Working closely with Heads of Year.
Supporting behaviour interventions.
Monitoring individual pupil concerns.
Maintaining accurate pastoral records.
Communicating with parents and carers.
Supporting pastoral meetings.
Contributing to individual support plans.
Helping pupils develop positive routines.
Supporting pupils returning after periods of absence.
Liaising with teaching staff.
Escalating safeguarding or welfare concerns appropriately.
Supporting school-wide wellbeing initiatives.
Assisting pupils during less structured parts of the school day where required.
The role will involve working with pupils who may need additional structure encouragement or guidance.
The successful candidate should be approachable while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Transition between different stages of education.
Communication with parents and carers will form an important part of the role.
The successful candidate may contribute to meetings provide appropriate updates and work with families to support pupil engagement.

Attendance staff.
Other pastoral professionals.
Information must be recorded accurately and shared appropriately.
The school is looking for someone with:
Experience in pastoral support education youth work or mentoring.
Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong relationship-building abilities.
A calm and consistent approach.
Strong organisational skills.
Good record-keeping abilities.
The ability to maintain confidentiality.
Confidence working with parents and carers.
The ability to work as part of a wider team.
A proactive and supportive approach.

Experience supporting pupils with additional needs or behavioural difficulties would be advantageous.
The successful candidate must contribute to the schools safeguarding culture and understand when concerns should be recorded and escalated.
