The Company

Milver Metals established in 1981 is the UKs leading recycler of aluminium and copper: buying and trading non-ferrous metal and producing alloyed ingots for the automotive aerospace engineering and foundry industries. The business is part of the AMC Group a $1bn turnover metals group headquartered in the UK.

Position Overview

The business wants to bring in a highly talented trader who can grow purchases of a range of non-ferrous scrap metals in the East Midlands with a particular focus on copper and take commercial responsible for the non-ferrous scrap metal trading yard. Milver produces a comprehensive range of copper alloy ingots including brass gunmetal tin bronze silicon bronze and aluminium bronze and the right candidate may grow their role into trading these alloys also.

Principal responsibilities

Buying metal into the trading yard from other merchant suppliers and maintaining relationships with repeat suppliers

Developing a low-cost supply chain by getting as close to the scrap source as possible

Target purchases of 300-400T non-ferrous material per month predominantly arising out of East Midlands area (Coventry Leicester Northampton and surrounding areas) in small lot sizes

Aggregating and arranging sale of metal from the trading yard to trade outlets both domestic and foreign including sister companies within the AMC Group mostly in container size clips.

Identifying and grading incoming materials and liaising with suppliers in the event of weight or quality claims of said material and determining highest value outlet route for the metal

Leading the yard team regarding storing processing and grading materials ready for despatch or foundry melting

Taking commercial responsibility for stock control.

Liaising with Copper/Aluminium production staff ensuring we have the correct quality/grade of material that they might require

Experience:

Substantiated successful track record trading non-ferrous scrap metals with deep experience in the scrap copper grades

Experience trading copper alloys will be considered a benefit but is not required

Character/aptitudes/skills:

An ability to develop resilient trading relationships as characterised by pre-existing strong long-term relationships with suppliers.

Excellent communicator with an ability to manage different stakeholder groups.

An ability to influence both customers and suppliers effectively.

Able to work under own initiative within managements guidelines.

An ability to work as part of a team balancing competing departmental targets and objectives to the overall benefit of the business.

Personal qualities of resilience accuracy and the ability to quickly establish strong working relationships in a demanding environment will be important.
