We are working with an engineering team seeking an FPGA / Digital Systems Engineer for a 35 month outside IR35 contract based in Bristol (hybrid).
This is a hands-on role building real-time digital systems that directly interface with MEMS and photonic hardware. The FPGA is a core part of the sensing system directly impacting stability noise performance and overall system behaviour.
What youll do
Design and implement FPGA systems for high-speed sensing and control (MEMS photonics ADC/DACs)
Build and stabilise real-time control loops (PLLs AGC feedback systems demodulation)
Translate control theory and signal processing into robust RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog)
Manage timing latency jitter noise and numerical stability
Develop Python-based verification and automation tooling
Own verification using structured testbenches assertions and automated testing
Support lab bring-up and hardware debugging
What were looking for
Strong FPGA experience on real hardware
Background in control theory or signal processing
Experience with feedback systems (e.g. PLLs control loops)
Comfortable working across digital analog and physical domains
Strong verification discipline (not just waveform debugging)

Contract: 35 months
Status: Outside IR35
Location: Bristol (hybrid)
