Role Overview

A well-resourced secondary school and sixth form in Slough is seeking a precise reliable and experienced Finance Officer to join their business operations team this key role you will work alongside the Finance Manager and School Business Manager to manage day-to-day financial operations maintain accurate accounting records and ensure strict financial compliance. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented finance professional to contribute to the efficient financial management of a thriving educational community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process purchase orders supplier invoices sales ledger transactions and petty cash reconciliations.

  • Manage day-to-day banking activities income collection and regular bank reconciliations using school finance systems (e.g. FMS PS Financials Civica).

  • Assist in monitoring departmental budgets preparing monthly variance reports and processing end-of-month financial runs.

  • Oversee online parent payment portals (e.g. ParentPay SchoolGateway) for trip payments catering and school resources.

  • Support the audit process by maintaining clear audit trails and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and procurement policies.

Key Requirements

  • Relevant financial qualification (e.g. AAT Level 3/4 or working towards) or equivalent practical finance experience.

  • Proven accounting or finance experience ideally within a school academy trust or public sector setting.

  • High proficiency in educational financial software (SIMS FMS PS Financials Sage or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong numerical accuracy organizational ability and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with budget holders suppliers and senior leadership.

  • Legal right to work in the UK.
