Job Summary

Keeping a data centre running is not just about power. Cooling ventilation water systems and environmental controls are equally critical to uptime.

We are looking to connect with Mechanical Engineers who have experience maintaining operating or upgrading mission-critical facilities for current and upcoming opportunities in Slough and the wider Thames Valley.

These opportunities may be available with data centre operators facilities-management providers engineering contractors and specialist service organisations.

What the work may involve

Depending on the employer and site responsibilities could include:

  • Operating and maintaining critical mechanical infrastructure.
  • Completing planned preventive and reactive maintenance.
  • Monitoring cooling performance temperatures pressures and system alarms.
  • Responding to mechanical faults and site incidents.
  • Diagnosing equipment failures and coordinating repairs.
  • Supporting mechanical isolations and safe systems of work.
  • Managing specialist contractors and maintenance providers.
  • Reviewing service reports technical documentation and maintenance records.
  • Supporting equipment replacement plant upgrades and capacity-expansion projects.
  • Assisting with testing commissioning and handover activities.
  • Contributing to emergency-response and business-continuity procedures.
  • Ensuring work complies with site standards health and safety requirements and operational procedures.

Systems may include:

  • Chillers and chilled-water systems.
  • Computer room air-conditioning and air-handling units.
  • Cooling towers and dry coolers.
  • Pumps valves and pressurisation systems.
  • Ventilation and extract systems.
  • Building-management systems.
  • Leak-detection equipment.
  • Water-treatment systems.
  • Fire-suppression and life-safety interfaces.
  • Fuel drainage and environmental-control systems.

Your background

We would like to hear from Mechanical Engineers technicians and critical-facilities professionals with experience in environments such as:

  • Data centres.

  • Large commercial estates.
  • Energy or utility infrastructure.
  • Other mission-critical buildings.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Maintaining complex mechanical plant.
  • Working with chillers pumps air-handling or cooling systems.
  • Fault-finding in operational environments.
  • Reading mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Working within planned-maintenance systems.
  • Coordinating contractors and specialist suppliers.
  • Supporting operational switching or isolation procedures.
  • Working in environments where uptime and service continuity are essential.

Qualifications

Suitable candidates are likely to hold a recognised mechanical engineering qualification apprenticeship City & Guilds NVQ HNC HND or equivalent technical certification.

Additional training in areas such as F-Gas water treatment confined spaces pressure systems health and safety or building controls may be advantageous.

Working arrangements

Opportunities will be centred in Slough with some positions also covering nearby locations across the Thames Valley.

Working patterns may include:
