Cost Controller
Job Summary
- Monitor project costs against approved budgets and contractual baselines.
- Prepare and maintain monthly cost reports dashboards and financial performance summaries.
- Support the monthly forecasting process including Estimate at Completion (EAC) Estimate to Complete (ETC) and cash flow forecasts.
- Analyse cost variances and identify trends risks and opportunities affecting project performance.
- Work with Delivery Managers and Project Managers to understand cost drivers and develop mitigation or recovery plans where necessary.
- Prepare monthly Applications for Payment (AfP) to the client ensuring all chargeable activities are accurately captured validated and supported by the required evidence and contractual documentation.
- Coordinate with Project Managers Finance and Commercial teams to ensure timely submission of payment applications and support the resolution of any client queries relating to invoices or payment certifications.
- Manage the projects timesheet booking system ensuring resources are correctly assigned to work packages cost codes and projects monitoring compliance with timesheet submission deadlines and supporting the validation and approval process.
- Review timesheet data resource allocations and labour costs to ensure accurate project charging and reporting.
- Support the preparation and validation of accruals and month-end financial activities in collaboration with Finance.
- Monitor subcontractor and supplier costs where applicable and support invoice verification.
- Assist in tracking project changes and compensation events ensuring approved changes are reflected within project forecasts and budgets.
- Produce cost performance indicators and support Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting where applicable.
- Ensure financial data is accurate complete and maintained within project management and finance systems.
- Support internal and client financial reporting requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project controls processes reporting tools and cost management practices.
Qualifications :
- Degree (or equivalent) in Finance Quantity Surveying Engineering Project Controls Business Management or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in Cost Control Project Controls Project Finance or Commercial support within engineering construction infrastructure or energy sectors.
- Good understanding of project cost management principles budgeting and forecasting.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyse large datasets and build financial reports.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle SAP or similar financial systems is desirable.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and Earned Value Management (EVM) would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive organised and capable of managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
