Role Overview

A dynamic and welcoming secondary school in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated and proactive Attendance Officer to join their Pastoral and Safeguarding Team this key role you will work closely with students parents carers and external agencies to promote high levels of student attendance and punctuality ensuring every child achieves their full academic potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor analyse and maintain daily attendance records using school management software (e.g. SIMS Arbor).

  • Conduct first-day absence calls follow up on unexcused absences and coordinate home visits where necessary.

  • Identify attendance trends implement early intervention strategies and run targeted attendance reward schemes.

  • Liaise with pastoral leads safeguarding personnel and external agencies (such as the Education Welfare Service).

  • Issue attendance reports and ensure full compliance with statutory Department for Education guidelines.

Key Requirements

  • Qualification: Qualification Institution Dates (e.g. Level 3 Qualification / Degree Awarding Institution Year)

  • Previous experience working in an educational pastoral or administrative environment dealing with attendance or student support.

  • Proficient computer literacy and hands-on experience with school management software (SIMS Arbor or similar).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a compassionate yet firm approach when dealing with sensitive family situations.

  • Excellent organizational ability and knowledge of school attendance legislation and safeguarding practices.

  • Legal right to work in the UK.
