Job Summary

Overview

As a MicrosoftDatacenter Engineering Design Manageryou will report directly to the Sub-RegionalDesign Program Manager assigned to manage the engineering scope schedule and budget for greenfield brownfield and retrofit engineering / design projects through all stages of the project from site due diligence design and construction as assigned in Spainand in other EMEA locations as required.

Asa COIDatacenter Engineering Design Manager you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsofts over 200 online businesses including Bing Office 365 XboxOneDriveand the Microsoft Azure platform.

Responsibilities
  • Manage internal and external resources to deliver land technical due diligence construction permitting building shell and core engineering and design power cooling telecommunications and controls infrastructure aligned to Microsofts datacenter capacity roadmap.
  • Support engineering procurement strategies contract negotiations and scope management to achieve business objectives and maximize project value.
  • Provide design management technical direction decision-making and overall leadership for our datacenter architectural and engineering designs.
  • Oversee the delivery of multiple concurrent complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes schedules and budgets of the projects and managethe design deliverables of MS consultants (architectsengineersand designers).
  • Identify assess and proactively mitigate design permitting constructability and technical delivery risks drivingtimelyresolution of complex cross-functional issuestosupportsuccessfulproject execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned standardization and the adoption of best practices across projects regions and engineering disciplines.
  • Engage with key MS stakeholder groups within Microsoft as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Architecture Construction Management Design Management or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extensive experience delivering engineering and/or construction infrastructure projects including large-scale complex infrastructure environments.
  • Proven experience serving as a lead engineer lead architect design manager or project manager on large-scale complex infrastructure projects.
  • Significant experience leading cross-functional and/or cross-team projects including collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer Professional Engineer Project Management certification Registered Architect or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Experience in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering with a focus on datacenter and/or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience delivering large-scale infrastructure projects using Design-Build and/or Design-Bid-Build delivery methods.
  • Knowledge of local building codes regulations and jurisdictional standards including experience supporting site due diligence and infrastructure development activities.

  • Ability to meet Microsoft customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Spain is 63100.00 - 107600.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
