As a division of Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs (SED) strives to develop and maintain innovative high-quality dog guide services to enhance the mobility and independence of people who are blind or have low vision.

We follow the journey of a Seeing Eye Dog from their breeding and initial development as puppies through their advanced training to ensure they can safely guide their future partners to matching them with a client and finally ending with their happy retirement after eight years of dedicated service.

About the Opportunity

As our SED Mobility Instructor you will you will provide dog guide services to meet clients needs consistent with the International Guide Dog Federation Standards and the standards policies procedures and values set by Vision this role you will also:

• Instruct clients in the use and care of Seeing Eye Dogs as a mobility aid
• Interview applicants to assess their suitability for training
• Assess dogs suitability and train selected dogs to matching standards

About You

As part of the Seeing Eye Dogs team you should be qualified as an Instructor with a school recognised by the International Guide Dog addition the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including walking approx.12 kilometers a day in all weather and handling young active dogsis encouraged. You will also have:

• An understanding of current animal welfare and dog training principles
• Capacity to form effective working relationship with clients and deliver person centred services
• Current drivers licence and ability to travel independently
