The Life ScienceLeader CEMENA is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategic development and profitable growth of Chubbs Life Science practice across theContinental Europe MiddleEastand North Africa region. The role holder serves as the primary subject matter expert and commercialleadfor the Life Science segment working in close partnershipwith underwritingteams distribution partners andglobalpractice leads.
Operating within a matrix structurethese individual shapesthe regional Life Science underwriting agenda setting standards building market presence and translating Chubbs global capabilities into locally relevant technically sound solutions. The role combines deep underwritingexpertisewith strong commercial acumen and the ability to lead through influence across multiplejurisdictionsand cultures.
This position demands both strategic vision and hands-on engagement with clients brokers and internal stakeholders.
Reports directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer CEMENA.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Management
- Define and execute the Life Science underwriting strategy for CEMENA ensuring alignment with Chubbs global practice direction and regional businessobjectives.
- Manage andoptimisethe regional Life Science portfolio driving growth retention and profitability through disciplined risk selection strategic accountprioritisation and consistent application of underwriting guidelines.
- Monitor portfolio performance through rigorous loss analysis pricing adequacy reviews and data-driven insights;identifytrends articulate findings clearly to senior leadership and recommend corrective actions whererequired.
- Set and uphold underwriting standards documentation practices and thought process quality in line with Chubbs policies and the regulatory requirements.
- Business Development & Client Engagement
- Identifyprioritise and develop new business opportunities across the Life Science segment working with brokers agents distribution partners and direct clients tomaximisethe regional pipeline.
- Build and nurture trusted long-term relationships with key decision makers influencers and buyers within the Life Science industry and the broader insurance marketplace.
- Lead complex account negotiations and coverage design discussions delivering tailored solutions that balance client needs with underwriting profitability and Chubbs risk appetite.
- Represent Chubb as a credible thought leader in the Life Science space through client engagements industry events market presentations and strategic broker dialogue.
- Underwriting Excellence
- Apply underwritingexpertiseto assess price and structure Life Science risks with technicalrigour sound judgement and in full alignment with Chubbs risk appetite and strategy.
- Evaluate risk profiles exposure structures and coverage terms designing solutions that meet client and distribution partner needs while generating underwriting profit for theorganisation.
- Drive consistency and quality in the regional underwriting approach mentoring and guiding underwriting colleagues where applicable and promoting best practice across the CEMENA community.
- Stay current on Life Science industry trends emerging exposures regulatory developments competitor positioning and market pricing dynamics across all relevant CEMENA markets.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Matrix Leadership
- Work effectively within Chubbs matrixorganisation collaborating with country leaders product heads claims legal and global practice teams to deliver cohesive high-quality solutions.
- Communicate complex underwriting and risk information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences from senior executives and clients to distribution partners and country teams.
- Contribute to regional and global Life Science initiatives sharing market intelligencelossinsights and underwriting best practices to strengthen Chubbs overall practice capability.
- Support the Chief Underwriting OfficerCEMENAin shaping the broader underwriting agenda providing regular and transparent reporting on Life Science portfolio performance and strategic developments.

- A demonstrabletrack recordin building and leading a specialty practice or product line across multiple markets within a matrix or internationalorganisation encompassing risk selection pricing loss analysis coverage design and strategic account management over a sustained period.
- Proven business development capability:identifyingopportunities cultivating broker and client relationships and convertingpipelinesinto profitable long-term growth.
- Deep understanding of the Life Science industry landscape including product liability exposures clinical trial risks key risk drivers and the regulatory environment across CEMENAjurisdictions complemented by solid knowledge of insurance and reinsurance market dynamics competitor positioning and emerging trends.
- Strong technical underwriting skills across risk assessment coverage design and pricing methodologies with the ability to interpret claims data loss trends and portfolio analytics to derive actionable evidence-based insights.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to cultivate trusted partnerships across cultures languages and geographies and the commercial instinct to align client and broker needs with theorganisationsprofitabilityobjectives.
- A confident credible communicator who conveys complex risk andcoverage ofmatters with clarity and precisionpresentsimpact to senior audiences andnegotiatesmutually satisfactory outcomes.

- A university degree in a relevant discipline life sciences biology chemistry engineering law or business
- Fluency in English is essential;proficiencyin French German Spanish or Dutch is a significant advantage
