About Your Role

Scopes Communication Inclusion Resource Centre (CIRC) is a nationally recognised leader in accessible inclusion for people with communication disabilities.

For over 20 years weve been empowering people with communication disability and/or low literacy by helping communities become more accessible inclusive and connected. We work with a dedicated team of people with diverse skills and lived experience of disability to build the capacity of mainstream services to be more inclusive and accessible to all.

We are looking for a Digital Accessibility Lead initially a 12-month fixed term contract to transform Scopes Communication and Inclusion Resource Centres accessible and inclusive products and this role you will manage increased digital access and inclusion maturity to both internal and external stakeholders and manage the quality assurance of these deliverables.

In this newly created role you will be empowered to provide services across a diverse range of external clients from a variety of sectors leveraging your knowledge and passion for digital accessibility in public and private sectors. You will also have the opportunity to lead a small team of like-minded professionals in an organisation that is committed to inclusion.

You will enjoy interacting with diverse stakeholders and possess the communication and relationship skills to thrive in a fast paced diverse and complex environment.

Your Key Focus

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Synthesise applicable access and inclusion laws standards and guidelines into non-technical documentation for the Accessible Information team.
  • Implement an in-house workflow for content publishing (tagging).
  • Uplift current accessible information products and services to meet conformance criteria for digital access and inclusion like Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 and PDF/UA.
  • Disseminate conformance criteria for ongoing design and delivery through role-based training.
  • Work with customers to help them improve their accessibility maturity and remove accessibility barriers by developing roadmaps and processes relevant to their context.
  • Review customer design systems and brand guidelines to identify potential accessibility barriers.
  • Unpack complex user experience and information architecture problems.
  • Lead relevant contractors and team members in conducting automated and manual accessibility audits on a range of digital products.
  • Coach develop and inspire your team

Your experience shall align with

  • Deep understanding of WCAG PDF/UA ISO 24495 and Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
  • Deep understanding of inclusive design and experience applying laws of UX usability heuristics and user-centred design principles.
  • Deep understanding of how various digital assistive technologies work and how different design choices may impact end users.
  • Ability to work closely with a customers development team to ensure the successful implementation of technical requirements to improve accessibility.
  • Comfortable with working in an ambiguous environment that is experiencing rapid growth.
  • Can operate effectively even when things are not certain.
  • Builds a growth mindset and resilience.
  • Proven capacity to work both strategically and operationally.
  • Excellent collaboration influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership will all level managers and staff.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to critically analyse issues and develop and implement effective solutions.
