About the Role

The Director Retro Analytics & Clients is a senior technical role responsible for supporting the performance protection and strategic development of the reinsurance portfolio.

The role oversees retrocession arrangements underwriting performance analysis risk accumulation business planning and product development. Working closely with Underwriting Risk Finance Actuarial Strategy and senior management the Director provides the analysis and insight required to ensure risks are appropriately managed portfolio performance remains aligned with business objectives and adequate protection is maintained against significant losses.

The position requires a strong combination of reinsurance expertise commercial judgement analytical capability and the ability to communicate complex technical information to senior management and key external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

1. Retrocession Management

  • Oversee and monitor the companys retrocession arrangements across Life & Medical and Non-Life portfolios.
  • Prepare comprehensive retrocession packs and presentations for Management Board Technical Committees and retrocessionaires.
  • Analyse renewal information conduct internal pricing analysis and coordinate with brokers actuaries catastrophe modellers and internal departments.

2. Underwriting Performance & Analytics

  • Monitor and analyse underwriting performance against the approved Business Plan across lines of business regions and business units.
  • Develop consistent management reports that provide clear insight into underwriting trends performance and financial results.
  • Analyse costs including retrocession expenses and IBNR in coordination with Finance and Underwriting teams.

3. Risk & Accumulation Management

  • Monitor insurance accumulation underwriting pricing business plan and retrocession risks in accordance with the companys Risk Management Framework.
  • Work with the CUO and CRO to establish appropriate exposure limits by country region and line of business.
  • Develop and enhance processes and tools for aggregate exposure monitoring data validation and facultative risk exposure management.

4. Business Planning & Performance

  • Coordinate with Strategy and Underwriting teams on the underwriting components of the annual Business Plan.
  • Monitor key assumptions including premium claims acquisition costs combined ratios ultimate loss ratios and ultimate premiums.
  • Compare actual underwriting performance against agreed Business Plan assumptions and identify material deviations or emerging trends.

5. Product Development

  • Oversee and support the product development lifecycle from initial opportunity identification through to launch.
  • Identify potential market opportunities through analysis of competitors regulatory developments and wider industry changes.
  • Coordinate with Underwriting Claims Strategy and Actuarial teams to develop pricing models business assumptions retrocession protection and launch plans for new products.

6. Management Reporting & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Provide senior management with clear analysis and reporting on portfolio performance risks and financial implications.
  • Coordinate effectively across Underwriting Finance Risk Actuarial Strategy and other relevant functions.
  • Maintain effective interaction with external stakeholders including brokers retrocessionaires actuaries and catastrophe modelling specialists.

7. Leadership Governance & Development

  • Coach support and monitor team members and contribute to internal technical workshops and knowledge development.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with applicable cybersecurity policies and requirements.
  • Provide ongoing support to management in accordance with agreed objectives guidelines and KPIs.

Education & Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Risk Management Business Administration Actuarial Science Econometrics Statistics or a related discipline.
  • Professional insurance qualification such as ACII is preferred.
  • Typically 10 plus years experience within the insurance and/or reinsurance industry.
  • Strong technical analytical statistical and financial capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and motivate and develop teams.
  • Strong communication networking coordination and negotiation skills together with high emotional intelligence.
  • Experience within major international reinsurance markets such as London Bermuda Singapore Zurich or India is preferred.
  • Relevant experience should ideally include retrocession capital management capital modelling capital efficiency product development and client management.
